Hi All,

Please read the thread as I'm not asking for you to give me a price but to advise me if what I am doing is ok..

I have 2 small floors to quote for and I'm not sure if I should charge day or per m2. The first floor is 1.4m2 a cloakroom and the second is 2.5m2 both have a bowl and basin in situ. Now the 2 floors will be done at different times as the custome just wants a quote for them so they can get the cash together to do the job.

The customer is suppling all the mats and all I'm doing is fixing the ceramic 12" x 12" tiles. As I live down South and the local tile supplier charges £30m2 and I normally charge £20m2 but based on the size of the floors, the 1.4m2 floor I would charge them £30 and it would take 3/4hours to do. So I am going to charge them half a day rate (£80) to do the floor and does this sound ok price wise.

definitely day rate mate, would you do a kitchen splashback, say, 3m2 on meterage?:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I'd charge the same £80 as you probably cannot go anywhere else that day and you still have your travelling time and costs to consider. At least you would have an early finish or some time to collect supplies for the next job.

I always try to charge day rate now and use meterage as a guide on larger jobs, good luck Neil

I think that is very cheap, £80?, now take off your tax and fuel, the cost of your vehicle, ie road tax and running costs, you will be lucky to clear £10 profit in that, Every business no matter if they are huge or a one man band have running costs/overheads etc, if you dont know your minimum hourly rate and stick to it then you are asking to run into problems. My day rate is £175.00 to £240.00, you are working to earn money not just turn it over, your day will end at 1pm and all for £80.00? what else will you do that day? £125.00 minimum is what you should charge

:20::20:

i agree with diamond on this £80 is too low not many people actually consider there overheads when quoting i hate going up against "cheap tilers" who just work for cash in hand who will throw out a job for next to nothing charge what your worth

I'm pretty new to this game, so can't give much in the way of advice.. But, just for the record, i only use a m2 price if it's more than my day rate. I'd probably charge a day for each (unless i could tie it in with another job, in which case a half day for each), but explain to the customer that if they were done on the same day, it'd be a day for both! I'd rather do them both together to cut down on travel expenses etc. :thumbsup:

£80-00 for half a day - is the equivalent of £41,600 before tax and expenses.
If you have work coming out of your rear then you can charge the £175 + that is being quoted -which is actually only £7-50 more than you had estimated yourself!
So if your happy with the figure and you feel you can do a good job in the half day timespan its better to have some work than none.:thumbsup:

Timeless John.
