Hi all, I'm going to be fitting a new shower. I've read plenty of advice on kerdi vs liquid membrane etc etc, but one question I don't see being asked is how much of the wall should you do - lets say my bathroom is 3m by 3m and I'm putting in a 900mm Quadrant. How much of the two walls that touch would you waterproof - just the bit behind the shower and a "bit more" ? If so, can't the water go "around" the matting/membrane then?

So what happens to any moisture that's caught. Does it just trickle down to the (now waterproof) floor and sit there until it evaporates?

Moisture will just evaporate - If there's water trickling down behind your tiles then you've got problems!

Now I'm confused. I was under the impression I waterproof - walls and floor - then fit tray on it, tile down to the tray.

No. It should be tray in first then then the tape in the kit laps down on top, then the membrane goes over the tape, bridging the gap between the wall and the tray, preventing anything getting in between.

I disagree Paul.

Imo the perfect way would be fully tank the wall to floor, obviously tape the corner, fit the tray and silicone, then apply butyl tape over lapping on to tray which will stick like you know what to the tray

Ok, see your point. So you are still taping down to the shower but painting the membrane beneath as well. Suppose it seems silly not to for the amount of membrane it will use, if for any reason the the tape/silicone fails. Point taken onboard :)

Hi, I'm new to the forum and fairly new to tiling, my only previous "proper" job was my recent bathroom (600x600 porcelain, about 25m walls and floors) which went pretty well. I'm now having a go...
