hi im new to the site.
i have got my bathroom fully walled tiled. i had this done about 15 years ago, the tiles are still looking good apart from these hairline cracks that have appeared the tiles were italian. just wondered if anyone knew why they gone like this.> thanks in advance

:welcome: can you describe the cracks a bit more do they run from one tile to another horizontal or vertical ect maybe some pics would help:8:

Defo need some macro pics of the tile cracks then we can offer some help

Your :welcome: me ol m8

have you had any refurb work done in the vacnity of the tiles lately that could have caused some substrate movement?

not had any work done, they have been producing these hairline cracks over about the last 5 years. i had a surveyor come out but he was hopeless he said its the movement of the plasterboard. i said never the house been up about 25 years plus. different if its a new house. i shall try and get some photos done later on... the cracks are all over the actual tile.

It is Glaze crazing... happens with glass glaze after a few years..nothing to worry about..

They may be sortable with liquid resin! A lot depends on the colour and finish and whether they are ceramic or porcelain

Golden porcelain restoration glaze is a product for reglazing but I don't think it is suitable for tiles.

Someone may know of another more durable product.

If you have any flat tiles or spare ones, try a water test. Place a drop of water on a tile and remove after 20 mins, if there is a darker shade where the water was they are most likely polished. If there is no colour change they will be glazed.

That's epoxy priming and a repaint out.

I personally can't help any further other than state the obvious. but someone else may pick this thread up from here.
