Hello guys, I went to tile a plaster board wall today, then found out the board is fixed to 3" insulation foam sheets, which is glued to the concrete blocks. So i need to drill & screw it, to make it secure, but what plugs & screws would i use. i can't remove the board or insulation sheets.
any help would be greatfully recieved.

thanks Edd

YOU CAN USE HIT FIXINGS FOR THAT.

Drill holes and hit fixing into wall then screw the last bit into the board, you will probably need a washer aswell to save the screw going into the plasterboard.

Eddie, don't wanna state the obvious but are you sure theyr'e not insulated plasterboards that have been dot and dabbed to the wall?

No, im told the insulation is glued to the wall. I was thinking about the long grey plasplugs, scews and plugs, that hammer in then screw the last bit up tight.

cheers, Edd

eddie you are best to frame the wall and screw the plasterboard to the straps, use 40mm-50mm screws.

I didn't know if the plugs would have a big enough lip, to give good grip on the board. At what measurements do you fix?

Cheers, Edd

I went onto the Gyproc web site. they do a plug & nail fixing for concrete, as a secondary fixer. it looks similar to the grey plasplug screws, but its a nail instead of a screw.

The boards should be dot and dabbed and should have been fixed by whoever applied them. The reason is if there's a fire in the house the backing would melt and boards could fall away from the walls

Cheers CJ. I can get these from jewsons. but the guy said you need a really high torque drill to screw them in. i don't think my drill will be strong enough.

Edd

Are the hammer fixings the grey plasplugs type, lads? I just want to make sure it's all really secure. How far apart should they be?

Cheers, Edd

You should use two 25mm from the edge of the board and in the centre, it's just a precaution

So, is that a yes it's ok to use the plasplugs frame fixers then? and how far apart should they be?

Cheers Edd

British Gypsum recommend 6mm thick but frame fixings should be ok, 2 to a board. Centre of the board and one at each side 25mm from the edge and when hammmering don't break into paper surface with the screw head, keep flush with the surface
