I'm currently pricing a job 60sq. mtrs. 600/440 porcelain over ufh under screed. As I've never fixed membrane and this is a substantial area I'm unsure of how long it takes and would appreciate a rough guide price for labour. Alternatively some idea of time to fix 60 sq.mtrs in a reasonably open area would help. Thanks

It doesn't take too long to install but if you are unsure then advise your customer that it is part of the prep work which can only be quoted on a day rate due to so many variables. You can then give an estimate of one day but with a caveat that it may be more, that way you are covered.

Good luck.

I'm not worried about being slightly out on it as I just put it down to learning and experience. I just don't want to be a mile out but a day to fit seems about right.

Is that what you are charging Mark? :yikes: That's on a par with 3 days money for fixing. Have you got any jobs going? I can make myself available for that sort of daily dosh

I'm thinking one days labour plus 7no. 20kg addy plus membrane. How does that sound? plus a little mark up.

Remember your there to make money, don't do everything at cost......

Add 15% to the materials

My other issue is they may wish to proceed without decoupling. My intention is to quote decoupling separately with a recommendation to using it. If they go against my advice and I proceed without decoupling I'm concerned I would still be held liable if the tiles fail as my quote would prove I was aware of risks involved of not decoupling. I'm thinking of wording it as a recommendation to lower risk and should they instruct me to proceed they would be accepting the higher risk. Does that makes sense?

Do they realise that the underfloor heating needs to fired up before tiling comencess

Yep, they know that and also the procedure after tiling to wind it up very gradually.

Your in Scotland so your prices will differ dramatically from my area, if you make mistakes thats just part of the learning curve

I don't think your a million miles off with your guesstimation Sandy, obviously the addy coverage is determined by how flat the floor is.

Sandy , i walked away from a 300m2 heated screed floor recently because the bloke dithered on using a decoup mat , if the tiles start cracking you can be sure your in the mire because you knew but went ahead anyway, who needs the hassle ??

hi dave , what if the wet ufh isnt in a screed and is under chipboard which is overboarded with ply?

how long does it have to be on for and temp etc before tiling?
