Diamond Pool Finishers

i was just wondering if there are any British standards that might applie here??
i do fit them in swimming pools and like to go for a notched trowel and back butter of boards and then a good twisting as i bed them in to try to acheve 100% bed i some times think about drilling and fixing with the special fixing's you can get what do you guys think??

I would deffo go with the mechanical fixings as well, as for the BS ..................... not sure to be totally honest.

it 's for insulation we fix them then render with a flexable render then tile, and then it save's people lots of cash on there heating bills for the lifetime of the pool if you click on the aquatherm bit on my signiture at the bottom of this and follow the links you can read more about it

as i said mark , i stick them but alway fancy mechanical as well, but with all the insulation going on to houses now and one coat render in great colors i thought there would be proper guid lines

Out of cuiriosity, what depth would you get away with drilling into the render mate? Can there be a possabilty that the pool would not be 100% water tight?

I have no experience in pools whatsoever. I worked on a site once on a public swimming baths and it was constructed with large slabs. This is the only time I have been near a pool during construction.

pool wall vary in thickness from 150--300/400 and floors can be very thick so drilling in to the pool shell by 75mm is not a prob really mate

or plastic!! have you seen the special fixing for insulation board there a bit like the basement tanking system ones you drill them then hammer them in if you get me!!

Ah i see its for heated pools, dont have them in Spain not a big seller though ground source heating is available to give you a few more weeks into the winter but thats not realy selling due to cost and no ones got any money, what is your recipe for flexible render then?

it's a very highly polymer factory one coat mix , its also fast track so can be tiled in 36 hours, that is all i can say !!

Once hammered home those fixings are a biatch to remove, we once had the unfortunate task of having to remove about 10 m2 what a pain.

Webber OCR? and yes i would deffo stick and mechanicly fix the cement boards with the plastic fixings.

sorry mate good guess though!! we do use the webber ocr-tiling for pool's now as an alternative to sand/cement it also great stuff aston know all about it to

sorry again mate not sika either 😛rrr: althought i'am trained in the use of sika's system  we have not used it in years , it seem's to have gone out of fashion for some unknown reason!!:dizzy2:

So why do you use this high polymer render against OCR, is it the 36 hour thing or is it going over insulation. If so where does the cement board come in, is that fixed over the insulation?

yes it go's over the insulation /aquatherm ,and offers the flexibility/water tightness,
cement board don't come in to it, it's just the same fixing ways

Sorry mate i got it wrong i read your first post wrong thought it said fixing cement board. See what you are doing now its basicly a thin coat insulated render system but the other way round in a swimming pool as all forces are positive cant see any problem with it but as i said before i would still mechabnicly fix.

i think i agree Lucius even if it's (belt & Braces ) i will try it, first fix with flexible addy then when set mechanical fixing's too
