You probably need to strip the wax and redo it. What ceramic tiles are they that need waxing?
I'm not sure, they are a kind of fake slate with rippled effect. They were laid down 9 years ago and sealed with a penetrating product but over the years they have got dirtier and dirtier so clearly they needed re-sealing. We decided to go for a gloss finish this time in the hope it would improve the look of them (they always looked dusty). Not sure how to clean them if the wax comes straight back off.

Ironwax is only for natural stone. It requires a slightyly porous tile to key onto. So if you have a ceramic or porcelain slate effect with an impervious surface, it won't adhere properly. You will need to strip the floor with LTP powerstripper, and if you still want the "just mopped" look, the one you need is the LTP Glaze Protector. That, you can apply up to 6 coats depending on how shiny you want it.

For every day cleaning on any tile that has been sealed you must use pH Neutral cleaners, such as LTP Waxwash, which will clean an keep you sealer topped up (as it contains a trace of linseed oil). "Off the shelf" cleaners are too aggressive and will cause sealer to break down and lift.

Thank you Paul that was really helpful. We have obviously bought the wrong stuff:(
