Cove adhesive for tiles?

Hi.

I've been tiling a kitchen with ceramic 400x200 tiles and have been forced to use cove adhesive on part of a window sill. I'm not sure but one of the tiles seemed to sink a bit easier than when I've used mastic tile adhesive, for instance when I've had to mess with the trim and inadvertently pushed part of the tile down.

Questions are am I likely to find the tiles have sunk when I go back tomorrow and what is the difference between cove adhesive and mastic adhesive?

Cheers.

Haha Doug Boardley, that's what i'd have done given the choice, but it wasn't my choice. What are the chances of the tiles not sticking and would it be a case of them failing over time rather than now?

Think i answered your question beanz 🙂

As far as I know mastic is a natural resin from trees, mixed with water and other stuff :/

The opposite way round, but many years ago a decorator friend recommended I stuck my coving with tile adhesive - some 20 years later, it's still stuck solid so I imagine it's similar stuff (wouldn't endorse it though!)

was mashine gun pointed at you? had no choice?
Many years ago my missus said- i'm pregnant.... So i had no choice....

You're right Anna, all the covings guys i knew used Bal Wall to fix coves, and it was fab for tiles too...
As for the above...who knows!

Still cant understand why your the tiler but you dont have a choice to what you fix the tiles with, hope you realise you are responsable for any failures.

I'm working for a bloke that does renovations, he buys the materials and I help him do the work (allsorts). We ran out of tile adhesive and as the only thing left over was the ready mixed cove adhesive he told me to use that.

So is the stuff likely to be ok??

I reckon you'll get away with it, i bet the tiles at that size are ceramic, and not porcelain.
Bear in mind its on a window sill and it will get hot and cold quickly with the sunlight etc, so it's a tough call.

I've heard of that before, but I started thinking the tile adhesive may be strong enough to hold coving up but the cove adhesive may not be strong enough or suitable enough for tiles. lol

Well see what it's like in the morning, if you're not happy though swap it, it's not worth losing sleep over.

I don't think I'm going to have a choice, unless theres an obvious problem in the morning they'll be staying there, not what I'd do but oh well.

Coving adhesive is sticking to paper and not tiles...

at the end of the day , cross your fingers and hope but we cannot condone what you have used.. simple as that really ... so many think tiling is easy..

As for mastic guys, just another name for dispersion tubbed adhesive , a term more used by americans.

I've done a few tiling jobs now and I guess its like anything, it's as easy as you make it. To do it well is a different thing though 🙂

Definitely not an easy job, is there such a thing?
