Corner cuts

Never had this before but got pulled up by a customer this week for my corner cuts not being the same size as my grout line spacers, it threw me bit as never been asked the question before so didnt really know what to say apart from that's how I've always done it.. I was using 3 mil spacers and when coming to a corner cut was measuring the tile cut then knocking 5 mill off which obviously gives a 2mm gap to the corner...having said that if I was using 2mm spacers I would knock 4mm off..
what's everyone else do??

Well once it's sealed you won't see the different sizes. Tell them the jobs not finished.

I just couldn't give a definitive answer to the customer so thought I'd ask what everyone else thoughts on this were..I only tend to Silicon the corners on studded walls where there's likely to be a little movement, I usually grout plasterboard on block work corners and run my finger down the grout in the corner to make it all look even...

Tell them it's within trade tolerances, haven't got a clue if it is or not but 1mm? Are they kidding?. I always Silicon the internal corners

If they saw it before grouting or if you're using a contrasting colour grout the difference is more obvious.

Did think he was ok when I started on Wednesday, ran through all layout options etc. and thought he seemed a nice chap...then Friday morning he hits me with that. This was only a small cloakroom toilet, starting the big wet room Monday but things like this play on your mind, hate feeling like your works being scrutinised after you've packed in for the day..

Are your corner cuts the same size as you straight cuts?

If they are then I don't see a problem... if there is more of a gap to the wall with the corner cut than with the straight cut then I can see it stands out like a sore thumb......I make sure all my cuts have the same gap to the wall then Silicon..

I do the same ,knock off just under 5mm . Some of these customers are playing mind games, just trying to keep you on your toes . I like to try and be polite , but make if obvious you wont be taken for a mug , don't make it to easy for them to criticise

Yes Andy I knock the same amount off to floor, ceiling, windows etc. grouting it in the morning so hopefully he,ll find nothing to criticise once it's actually finished..

I would tell him to wait till it's finished before he starts picking hole's. ....know what you mean though. ....hate it when customers start criticising your work before it's finished. ..

This is why I do more site stuff at least you can tell the site agent where to go when they start

This has made me think im glad im busy and can't give you a hand, had enough of awkward customers to last me the rest of the year in the first 2 months of 2015 [emoji36][emoji36]

Just agree with everything they say and when you've left a good job, they'll understand then. As for siliconing corners, its something I never do, I just grout all corners unless its around a shower or bath.
