Hi to everyone. Im pricing for removing the timber ledge all around a conservatory and tiling it. Its a low brickwall ,rendered inside and out.the wood has got wet only by lack of Silicon and condensation.now. How do you tile and grout if there is a cavity??? I dont want to fix on plasterboard etc because i dont want to raise the height of the front, ideas please!! Thanks

I take its a cill not a ledge

remove the cill and close the cavity off , you can buy cavity closers from your local builders merchant or you can do what we used to do and buy secondhand roofing slate and bed them in addy and tile on top

The old cavities used to have old slate roof tiles fixed over the gap. You could do it that way, it doesnt increase the height either. You should be able to use the tile adhesive to fix the slate as well.

yes they are, but easier to source now than slates, they will take a render/plaster so should be fine with a cement based addy

I did think about slates so thank you for the quick response. Recommend any addy? I use tile giant so a mapei would be nice!!
