Had a nosey today at a 160m2 floor needing tiled , its tile on tile(concrete floor), tilles are 300x300x9.5mm, looks straight forward with 5m radius circle in middle of floor (all tiles are pre-cut for circle),will be using mapei, adheisve/grout and Genesis or schluter movement and finishing trims etc

Cheers for you time, was thinking around £17 p/m plus mats ??

sounds fair enough for a price but can you not talk them into stripping the existing tiles?

17 pounds a m2! go in at 20 mate. And I don't like the sound of tile on tile where cars are going to be.

I've done a load of them VW's with the circle details - look the part when they're done, but we've always cut them ourselves rather than getting them pre manufactured.

You want an extra over rate for fixing the circles even if you're not cutting the radii yourself.:thumbsup: lot of work in the expansion joints as well - are you fitting expansions to the circles as well on this one?

If you've got to go tile on tile, my thoughts would be to use an S2 flexi addy too, (as well as a grinding cup etc)

Neither do I, its very risky, will have to speak to the Dealer and push for removal, the existing tiles have been down since at least 1995 and are sound apart from one area, and there are no movement joints !!

Those rates have bombed in the last 3 years if £17 is being offered. Mine was £30 all day long and never had an issue. Very strange for it to be tile on tile, I would not do it. You have to give a written guarantee when its finished.
Schulter expansion joints are the norm and you have to fit the curved trims, these are screwed down every 400mm. We did all the cuts ourselves on the curved areas the same as Merle. I would at least try to lift a few tiles before starting to inspect the floor beneath.
Are you contracting to Adonis construction ?

:thumbsup:

hi all my first post in here , sounds good money to me ,down here on the devon cornwall boader im only getting 15-16 per meter on most things ,slate im getting 18-20 per meter , to many diy-ers down here ,but go 50 miles up the road to exeter they and on 25-45 for slate

Us NI boys could only dream at the thought of £17 per metre on a commercial job. :drool5:

Ditto:thumbsup:

Not on the board / director of the car dealer are you Tubs ? - sounds way too cheap to me. I'd lift all the old tiles - then leveller as required and when the jobs complete - provide the usual warranty certificate. Schulter Exp joints aren't cheap ! I know it's big, but I would have thought £25 / m more the ticket. [All addy.grout etc inc] More would be better, but at present with 'ard times m8 - that said you can end up being busy and broke if your not careful.
Not sure how others do it, first off look at your costs and then work forward.
:thumbsup::thumbsdown::thumbsup:

When I was learning the ropes we did a few floors for Mercedes, and I laboured. One was a 600m floor, everything was ripped out, 30+ bags of latex and it was tiled. Pillars everywhere, and an island office/meeting room cube in the middle. I think 3 large mat wells aswell.

Take your time setting out, and check repeatedly everything is still on target so to speak. Go in with whatever price you feel comfortable with, bearing in mind a fast tiler and a good labourer (and on a perfect surface) should be able to get 50m + in a day if its big open areas. So you will make good money regardless, but dont be too cheap. Ask for what you want mate.
