HI guys and galls.

I have recently extended and plasterboarded (vapour barrier type - silver backing type which is what building control specified) my bathroom. I am about to install the bath which will run down one wall only i.e. not into a corner of the room. I have read many things on here about not PVAing the wall first just tile on top which is fine but can I leave the pasterboard bare under the bath? I will tile slighly around the ends incase of any water running around.

I dont want to tile the whole wall first i.e under the bath as well as I believe this will not given me a good seal to the bath, even though it would solve any potential problems. I will be screwing and siliconing the bath to the wall and then obviously siliconing bethween the bath and the tiles.

What do people recommend? Can i leave it bare?

Many thanks in advance to any help available!

Rob

hi rob yea you can leave it bare as long as you properly water proof the edges there is no point tiling the whole wall coz you cant see the tiles just tile the edges i would personally use BAL WP1 hope the job goes well mate

Personally I would tile at least two rows below bath panel, if at nytime in the future water leaks down through the bath seal it won't be soaking the plasterboard, which believe me will start to smell if it gets damp.

before u fit your bath to the wall, run mastic on the edge thats going to the wall, so it squeezes out, seal the top, seal after tiling and water will have a hard time to penetrate 3 seals 🙂....tiling onto plasterboard is fine btw 🙂

Are the boards screwed to the wall....via studwork.

Yeah they are screwed to the wall. I am going to fix the bath (screw through wooden surround under bath top) to the studwork also so should be a tight fit to the wall.
