Hi and good afternoon,

I'm looking to tile my bathroom soon, I'm good with the actual tiling, it's the preparation of the walls im struggling with. Tiles are 9.5mm ceramic floor to ceiling and 10mm ceramic on floor and shower area. Tiles inc adhesive are weighing in at around 25 m2.
The walls are pretty level and made up of old plaster and one wall has been previously painted. My plan was level the holes ect with rapid adhesive, prime, score the painted wall and tile away. But after reading that my tiles are too heavy for plaster I'm unsure what to do now. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Hello,
They don’t look great, look like they have been skimmed over once before, how many stud walls ?

Hi,
No stud, all walls are block. Yeah looks like it's had a skim over the sand/cement render and looks like it's had quite a newish skim on two walls, probably when the wet room was done for the old lady that used to live here. I'e tried taking some of the top coat off but it's well adhered to the render.

Me personally - I break out my SDS and take it back to block, prime then dot and dab plaster board. For the sake of a day and a half work you will have perfect walls to tile that can take 32kg/m2 weight

That's what I was thinking, I tried that earlier with the SDS and the render was a right **** to remove, it just started taking the breeze block off.

Is this normal?

Overboard with deltaboard or equivalent! Are the walls plum and flat, even if a bit uneven here and there ?

As said overboard Delta, Wedi, Marmox, Jackoboard fixed with adhesive and specialist screws/washers
