Mike

how far do you usually travel to work? i'm quite lucky as 90% of my work is within a mile of my house, at the moment i'm working 3 doors away then a big job on a site 400 yards away, i don't envy some of you spending hours stuck in traffic. we're also lucky here as there's only 2 sets of traffic lights within 20 miles

Your a lucky being Mike, bet your van is a low miler. lol.
I used to only have to go 14 miles to two building sites where i tiled nearly all but now i'm all over.
Usually 40-60 mins lately and Christmas week i have a 1.5 journey to work and back !!
I'll be staying near that job and working long hours to wipe it quick.

I usually work within a half hour radius, an hour if it's a worthwhile job.

Jesus Mike, i didnt realise you moved to the outback?

If we are anywhere south of the Kingston bridge in Glasgow then we are lucky, we normally only travel about 15/20 miles to get on the job. it makes a big difference to your day if you are closer to home.

No set rule, I'll go where the work takes me, no distance too far, done a few jobs for different forum members, all over the country, and abroad lol of course, those jobs I will dig out.

I have worked 20 miles away on the odd occasion but nearly all my work is by word of mouth in my town, its nice finishing work at 5 and being home at 5 past. I think I've don't about 9000 miles in my van in the 2 years I've had it.

Try to keep it within 4 hours - whether in the van or airplane:smilewinkgrin:
Once your there it's usually only 10 minutes to the job.

I tend to work anywhere that pays. Today I have a 20 mile journey to Worcester.....shame I have a bad feeling about the job !

Most of my work is 10 - 20 minutes from my door, but I will travel upto an hour away if need be. I used to travel all over the uk, but at 41 with two young kids, I couldn't put up with that now and to be honest, I charge a premium if I have to travel over 40 minutes...

Created on iPhone.....

when working in somerset about a 30 mile radius, when working in south London 7 mile radius (have a base in both places).few years back worked all over the uk,north/south/east and west ,ireland and channel islands too.

if i had to i wouldnt mind travelling or if the money was better but untill then local it is. i can even pop home for lunch and go on tf

most of my work tends to be fairly local say around 5 miles or so but with all the roadworks around here it can take an hour to travel... local coucil or who ever decides these things have decided to place roadworks on all the major roads in and out of the area at the same time, the traffic is an absolute nightmare.

Ha ha not quite, I live on a small island (joined by road to anglesey)
And nearly all my work is on the island, I've just had a call to look at a job on Wednesday which will take me half an hour to travel. That's about as far as I ever get,

I cover the northeast..🙂..travelling costs goes onto the job....

But will travel further if the needs must..🙂...

I'm doing a 160 mile round trip every day this week and all last week. It's taking between 1.5 and 2.5 hours each way:yikes:
Not ideal but a fairly well paid job so don't mind too much. Got a couple of small local jobs to slot in before christmas but will then spend most of January working down south staying in a b&b through the week.....

Was travelling 100 miles a day for a spell ona pool job up until last week 7am start 7pm finish good dough tho, Im fairly local up until Crimbo apart from a few days in Edinburgh (35 miles away). Tommorow im in my mother in laws street, have been promised bacon rolls at lunch time  .

I do like travelling for the right job, havent done much lately & do miss it.

would love to be able to work local mike, but most of my work is away from home, it has been for the last 25 years. Cant believe am still doing it to be honest.

Been as far north as Kilmarnock, as far South as Plymouth and also across sea to Dublin.. would travel further if it was worth my while

I am local this week, nice change. But I used to travel as Mike (mz30 ) may recall, California is the furthest I worked. I know a couple of lads that did work for Arvins, Dave Taylor, good grafter.
