Hi guys just a quick one, which trowel (notch sie) would u use for 150 x 150 quarry tiles. I was gonna use 8mm square notch but was wondering what, if any, the prob would be if I used say a 10mm u shape.

i would agree mate a 10mm u-notch is perfect, not a fan of square notch on floors!

Thanks Leatheface and Dave I was just wondering if being a smaller tile using a 10mm would be too much. Also, if I may ask another question, I was reading some old threads wit regards to fllors / walls being flat as opposed to level. I guess the flatness of the surface is most important rather than the level so when laying tiles on a flat but unlevel floor, when checking with a straight edge do you just ensure there are no gaps under the straight edge and ignore the bubble on your spirit level - if that makes an sense. I'm guessing trying to level tiles on an out of true floor can lead to problems. Just wondering how you pros approach this

Thanks Ernie.

I always like my substrates to be a flat as physically possible, always makes for an easier installation.

As for trowel size, I always test a few sizes of notch to see which one gives me the best balance between coverage and material usage, by spreading a section placing a few tiles and lifting to see what's occurring. If I think there's too little/too much adhesive then I change the notch size.

It's a system that's worked well for over 20 years 🙂
