Tubbed ..... again..

Im just worried about the 5 million odd houses thats been built over the years using tubbed and had no problems!
Who's wrong, the millions of pads with just tubbed or the 5 or so tilers on here ?

Ps i usually only use it on kitchens, but have used it many times, with no probs,
l and bal and palace and all the otheradhesive company's dont know what they are doing

i

Well as someone stated BrianTheTile, most bathroom tiles are now over the max tile size for tubbed adhesive, 300x300mm.
So you are telling us that all the bathroom tiles you have fixed are this max size or smaller?

Stef, mate,I think we all know that tubbed can't be used with certain tiles,I think it's the point that folk say it can't be uesed in showers when,in fact it's been proven over decades that it can.
Yes,some have failed, but some have failed with powdered as well, if it's not done right in the 1st place it's gonna fail.
Anyway,another beer for me 🙂

What I am saying is this , if you like using powder use it , I dont need to be told what adhesive to usewhere or when ithink as ihave said on numerous occasions , I have been in the job long enough to know and dont like being preached to it real is that simple

Stef if you dont like tubbed I have no problem with that, but do you really think the adhesive companies dont know what they are talking about , and bye the way no one came back when I ssked the question sbout which grout you all use , full waterproof or water resistant

I am far from bloody stupid as I suppose a lot of others that use tubbed are, I know what to do and when to do it just that a lot of folk on here cant take that in

And believe me when I say experience counts and I have plenty of that

It's already been proved in another thread a while back that your experience counts for Hee Haw.
I never stated I don't like tubbed addy, check my previous posts & you will see I was using green star to fix keraben 500x250s.
I was subbied to a company & that's what they used to use so the job would never fall back on me but I never had one failure with that tile as they were fixed properly (even with the wrong addy)
I'm not the one shying away from a question I asked you?
I've already stated where certain tubbed adhesive can & can't be used,
I would never use a D1 (Green Star) in a shower, I would always switch to a D2 (White Star) as that won't break down if it ever came into contact with water.
Anyway no more arguments, just done a hard workout & going for a shower, I was only putting in my 10%s worth..

100% agree with you there m8..

Stef why revert to insults , as I have said I dont know how many times I have no problem with whatever adhesive anyone on here uses, so why keep banging on about it, re readmy posts before hittng the button and stop the mud slinging as I dont seem to have mentione your name in ay of my posts, now im off as I have avery hard day on a mosaic kitchen

And for the record I will be using bal white star for theese mosaics , ijust hope that , that is ok with you tiling experts , or do yo think they might fall off?,mosaic wouldn't be my choice in a kitchen , but hey ho we all like to use different things eh

Done a site in 6x6 white this time last year ane got plenty of clean buckets off the job. Unfortunately I've nearly ran out so I am longing for another tubbed site.

Generally don't like how dispersion trowels and cakes but have no problem using it with small tiles on good walls. It has its uses on a block of houses where the generator is 1/4 mile away.

Now charlie 1 you are joust showinghow pathetic you really are with comments like that , very childish, you do not know me or my tiling so refrain from the personal insults

Im curious, your sticking some 600 x 300 ceramics on reasonable walls, what adhesive will you be using now? I remember a post from you a year or 2 ago where you said you use tubbed for 60 x 30's, is this correct? Eye all do things differently in different parts of the country so whatever works for you, I'm just curious.

:hand: :bobby:

Keep it decent please gents.......a debate is great and we all have different ways of doing things, but less of the personal attacks and insults please

I don't see how using powder is easier?
Tubbed u just open it and use it?!
At a guess I have used white star on 90% of my ceramic jobs and never had a fail.
I have had fails from powder not sticking to ply boxing though....so I re did it using tubbed

imo, far easier and quicker to spread, I use weber set plus, it's just lovely they way the stuff comes off your trowel

No problems for me either but here are a few tips if your rapid set is going off too quickly. Where are you getting your water for mixing? A big gorilla tub full off water where your washing your tools? This water will be gradually heating up all day so do not use this for mixing! Or your using fresh clean water from outside hose?, make sure you do not use this water either, the water is sitting in coiled up hose gradually warming up so every time you mix a batch, make sure you use fresh, clean, "cold" water from under the ground by spraying the hose for a few minutes before mixing.

Good valid oint there charlie 1 but I'm still finding the rapid set going a lot quicker as it always does in the warm weather , in fact on some jobs I have done in the past I have used slow set and it has gone nearly as quick as rapid on concrete , sorry point)

Rapid set is ok on big floors,I won't use it in bathrooms now, only standard set.
Standard sets fine in this weather ,great stuff and you do 't feel rushed.
You have got half hour AT THE MOST on a hot summers day even if you use filtered ice cold highland spring water with rapid,if you have got loads of cuts and have to run up and downstairs to use the cutter outside,it's painfull .
I'm using the analfix at the moment,I call it anal cos it's a *** to use 😉
