Tile On Or Around Bath

D

David Rowell

So Iwas just wondering as ive seen it and done it both ways, but Is it best to fully tile the walls where the bath will be fitted? Or fit the bath onto fully tiled walls?

what is the best practice?

What would be your opinion if you were the customer?

Just out of curiousty

Always fit the bath, seal then tile.
In Germany and some Scandinavian countries they tile completely and then fit the bath.
The baths there have a square edge, ours have more of a radius, so would need a very large Silicon seal.

View attachment 79779 I spelled it wrong it's classi seal, it's widely available over here, good stuff too

Always tile to the bath. I didn't see it posted, but it is a good idea to fill the tub with water before you Silicon the tile to tub transition. The water will pull the tub down, giving you the biggest joint to fill, and prevent you from having to go back because the Silicon seperated.

Yes, oldie look, not my cup of tea but matches the other bits in room.
A spout out the wall may look better.

Tank wall where bath is going, fit bath with classy seal, Silicon classy seal to tanked wall, tile down to bath and finish with bead of Silicon, same for shower trays.
Sorry to ask , but, do you not tank down to the bath edge if you want to tank?otherwise what is the reason?

If it's a normal bath and not a stand alone one I would always insist on it being installed first..( hopefully level)..Fill with water.. Just incase there's any flex or movement .. Then sillicon / seal/ prep prior to tiling..
