hi everyone,ive got my first stone bathroom so ive got a few questions and would appriciate some advice;1.the floor is of solid ply, do i use a flexy addy straight onto the floor or would it be better to use an uncoupling mebrane then the addy. 2. the bath will be sunken above ground in a wooden frame which i have not seen yet,i take it there will be movement,should i use the uncoupling membrane again around the framework prior to tiling and finally 3. the tiles will have to be cut with curves aroud the bath am i right to use a hand grider and if so what type of cutting disc.thanks for your help guys.:huh2:

What stone is it and how thick is the ply? You will need a continuous rim diamond blade for your grinder. The uncoupling membrane will be a good idea and if it is travertine or anything else soft it will be essential in my opinion.

cheers grumpy,at the moment i havent seen the job but ive spoken to the builder and its ready in about 3 weeks.i was just doing some prep work.trying to get it ready in the head, you know what i mean.

Assume the bathroom is upstairs and on timbers / joists. So the bath is sunk and held in a frame.

Assume the tiles you will cut are hidden by the lip / edge of the bath so they dont need to be perfect.

I'd be tempted to use a 12mm hardiebacker on the bath framework rather than plywood boxhead, and whatever you do, cover the sunken bath with a sheet of plywood!

lol John, better off with a sheet of ply, and cut it down,then you can cover the whole bath up. Besides, why do you need a bboard on Viccy floors:smilewinkgrin::smilewinkgrin:

Because of its size I was going to put it over my own bath.
I could then sit on the edge and swing my legs over and gently lower myself in to the warm water!
