Hi , what percentage do you lot add on when measuring for brick bond , i normally add on 10% for normal , just finished a brickbond bathroom i thought was ten mtrs inc 10% add on but the customer ended up getting a extra 4 mtrs and i only got paid for what i quoted ( 10mtrs ), which leads me on to another question , .. do you charge more for doing brickbond ?

hi terry if the area is 20 metres sq im going to tile but the pattern i am using means i need 24 metres then i charge for 24 metres as thats what im handling and cutting to complete

think your measuring must be a bit off to be over 4m2 short, i dont normaly use any more tiles brick bond , and i charge the same.

Brickbond should'nt make any difference really unless you have a lot of cutting in small areas which may increase the wastage..

The tiles need to be flat otherwise your on a hiding to nowhere with brickbond...

I don't calculate a higher percentage specifically for brick bond, though with larger format tiles I tend to allow 15% for waste instead of 10% as there is potential to lose more of the tile with cuts I find.

I don’t charge extra for brickbond, but I do charge for how long I think it would take to complete the job. Last week I had 12 metres of brickbond around & above kitchen cabinets, doors, windows etc. The tiles were 150x75. The window reveals and door reveals were about 90cm in depth. There were slithers of tiles required to go around & slightly behind the cabinets. Oh, and the tiles were made of glass! I read a great tip on this forum a few weeks ago about dipping your fingers in a bucket of water after cutting glass tiles. Because of all the slithers there was a lot of waste.

I charge extra for fixing but think my waste is sometimes less.

I spend a bit of time on set out so I can get all cuts to turn corners, looks a lot better than centering, which I take it your doing?

i also make brickbond go round corners, think i may of under estimated or forgot to add the normal 10% on when measuring, and there was a few chipped ones i recall, hense the extra meterage.. il try and put some pics of the job later as i carnt seem to upload any at the min. thanks for your replys
