Yay or nay?

Customer got a thin ply fastened to floorboards which he says he can't get up.
If I make sure they are well secure, use 6mm hardie backers stuck down and screwed down into floorboards do you think this will be efficient? Or shall I tell him its gotta come up down to floorboards?

Well he says its ply, it was put down for Laminate flooring to go down onto

DH. That's what I'm thinking, I don't wanna take any risks,
I don't have much knowledge of these hardie backers tbh.

Gotta come up IMHO.

Dave, I've never used Hardibacker boards, not sold here, so I don't know the answer. But I'm curious as to why you say they should come up. Is it because of uncertainty of how well the ply is adhered to the floorboards and is probably not primed on the underside, or some other reason(s)?? Thanks in advance, SM

Thin ply mike, subject to moisture issue from wetting of adhesive from hardi fixing bed

Voids could be under thin ply due to cupping of the floor boards , so weak points. Why risk it.

O.K. thanks Dave. If he takes the ply up, what would be the recommended procedure then? Lay the 6mm hardibacker directly to the floorboards, or board with something first, maybe a thicker ply?

As long as the floorboards are in good condition, not loose and free from deflection then use 6mm hardibacker glued and screwed.
