How many of us on the forum know of members on here who just observe and never post?...have asked some and the various answers have been that they are not confident enough and another one which i thought pretty disrespectful was ..a lot of them talk a load of **** and there are ways around things etc....any thoughts?

I see names floating about the who's online box, but never really take much notice, probably because they dont stand out because they dont post much .

Although I can appreciate how some people would be shy not to post incase they say the wrong thing for (unfounded) fear of looking a bit daft. Though Doug doesnt seem to mind 😛rrr:😛rrr:

Come on Doug........are you going to stand for that?

Not that I'm stirring you understand

Have seen lots of names just think there searching the forum for answers rather than come on and ask. Like what has been said they probably feel awkward asking a simple question just in case it makes them look stupid. Don't ask you won't know

Suppose there are alot of newbies who register, say hello then never do much work so not much to contribute except for the odd surf before listing their tiling tools for sale!

Not every one wants to post, I know a couple of lurkers who are quite happy to stay out the limelight!

Sometimes alot off the post have been answered as well. Some people also just like to watch erm i mean read.😳

I first joined the forum as a sanity check - I wanted to ensure that I was doing things correctly. After "lurking" for some time I realised that I knew as much as many others and could offer advice so started to contribute more.

I still feel that if I have nothing further to add to previous postees, then why waste everyone's time, so remain silent.

I'm not bothered by my post count, it's about keeping up to date with the most current techniques and products and ensuring that my methods are still the best.

you's say people are scared to ask questions in case people think they are daft!

is this a daft question?😳

The tiler i was talking to and said some people dont know what we are talking about on here is an old timer and IS set in his ways..but its good to see its raised a bit of a debate...please dont feel that its a dig in the ribs to those who dont post for the reasons stated.(dAZ,sALTIRE.fAITH)

My wife lurks on another couple of forums to do with neigbour/boundary laws etc. She doesn't post because she has no need. She gains a lot of knowledge. What she posts would only be duplicates of what others have said.

She had gleaned quite a bit of info.

Bit different to me - I have to have my say on most things

i think we just like to be in the limelight but ive noticed a few lurkers though:yikes::yikes:

some newbies open accounts with the intentions to contribute but never get round to it i guess.

for some it's just not their thing to post but just simply read gather information then leave never to be seen again.

I notice the same members on-line most nights so when anybody new r their i usually spot them

He's right tho' CJ!!

tbh some people may find an answer in reading a few threads, some people post questions as if they have a right to an answer (ie we're customer sevice dept!) I, personally, got onto the forum simply by googling for a washboy, and hopefully picked up a few (albeit cyber!) friends along the way. You're only really gonna get out of the forums what you put in tho' imo:8:

One thing to bear in mind is that although they're showing as online they might of logged off a fair while back, depends on how the forum software is set up to update stats etc

If a member is viewing on-line....the forum updates about once every minute and will show they are on-line but might not be physically viewing....but still logged on. Otherwise they will time out and be logged off...

Only the on-line page refreshes...

Yes, because your still open in a tab and logged in so will be showing as online.

Mmm, interesting, I was watching a member tonight on that page ( currently active users ) Is that the page Dave ? and they seemed not to be doing anything, I had my reasons 😉

was it me?

Nah mate, wasn't a fixer but a customer, agreed a price today and spotted him online, he's a have a go type, which is why he's ripping up about 6 - 8 m2 that he's laid before I start, was just curious as to what he was looking at and for, like he was checking up or something, paranoia is a wonderful thing 😀
