Hi - New to flooring and would appreciate advice on my proposal for floor build up in new graden room. Have to build up approx 100mm from new slab (incorporating dpm below) to existing floor level and propose:-
Treated softwood battens at 450mm crs with 25mm celotex insulation between, 22mm T & G flooring grade chipboard nailed to battens, 30mm Ekoboard in flexible tile adhesive (4mm notched trowel). electric underfloor heating mat, flexible SLC over to top of heating mat cables, 12mm travertine floor tiles in flexible adhesive (4mm notched trowel).
Have seen reference to decoupling membrane - should this be incorporated over the SLC ?.
Thank you.

Hello matchdayblue, welcome aboard www.tilersforums.com. Stick around, I'm sure you'll like the place. 🙂

:welcome::welcome:

Not sure about the answers to your questions, but if I were to have a stab I would say....battens need securing as much as possible, 450mm not enough. Replace chipboard with 22mm WBP plywood, screwed not nailed every 150mm, 8mm notched trowel for insulation boards, and 10mm U notch trowel for tiles themselves :thumbsup:

Would you not be better off with insulation layer and then screed. Give a more stable substrate in which to tile.
Oh hello by the way...

Hello and welcome to tilersforums...

Can you not use a thicker timber batton to bring the floor height up..?...seems an expensive way to bring the floor up to correct height.

I agree with Ajax, 100mm fibre semi-dry screed 4to1. You can still use a de-coupling membrane. Good luck.:welcome:

Agree with Ajax and above for the screed but work down from the finished surface for the tiles, thermal board, adhesive and thickness of ufh and let that give you your screed thickness

Was not thinking of 100mm Screed as some insulation underneath would be beneficial. 35mm PU insulation and 65mm sand cement with fibres or 60mm EPS 100 polystyrene and 40mm anhydrite screed would be my options.
