floor addy consistency?

tiling my first floor tomorow and just wanted to know what sort of consistency im looking for??? similar to tubbed stuff?:huh2:

and what trowel to use, is a 20mm round notch trowel suitable?

It has taken me a full year to realise that I was mixing cement based addy and grout too thick!

Unless it is a specific type of adhesive (ardex 7001 for instance) then mix it until it will just hold a notch when spread. When it is too thick (tubbed consistancy) it is hard work to trowel and more difficult to bed the tile in.

What is also important is to try and mix each batch to the same consistancy otherwise potential for lipping can become a problem, I found.

about 2m2 lol :lol: well theres 2, the wetroom floor will be tiles also when im ready, also anhydrite screed and joins with the impey shower tray

Deffo all in the prep with anhydrite screeds though.....i haven't come across one yet.....but no dowt will before long....

i have 24 appartments full of them im afraid :mad2: but yeah both guys that checked it from weber said it will be fine and i jsut neet to clean it, prime it, let it soak in and prime again etc till it doesnt soak ir up anymore, then wait till its dry and tile :yes:

would a trowel like this be ok to use?

I don't think you need the 20mm one.....the floors should be flat so a 10mm or 12mm solid bed will be fine...... and just mix the sticky as grumps says....is the weber one slow setting......I would say that slow set adhesives will be better.....

1.. gives you more time to work with it....especially as you are relatively new to tiling..

2..they are usually the best type of adhesive for these type of floors....

:yes: its slow setting, i know its only a small area to tile but id prefer not to risk it and use the slow set stuff

10mm square notch for me and i like floor stuff runnier than tubbed gear but not pourable. You should be able to push the tile into it yet it should keep its notch when spread(as grumpy posted).

Worked with another tiler a few weeks back on a big floor he liked it real thick, pain to spread and couldnt push the 600x600 into it so we mixed our own and i was doing double his m2

Knowing your local reps can open up lots of doors, freebies as you mentioned. Work leads and contacts within showrooms all good.
