Damp patches on white floor tiles - Tile Advice

Hi

A few days ago I liad white ceramic floor tiles, the next day dark patches appeared under the glaze , some tiles went completely dark , after three days the dark / damp patches have not dried out, the tiles wrer laid on thermal board with electric heat matt on top, rapid set adhesive was used as supplied by the shop, any ideas what has caused this and how can it be rectified.

Hi everyone

An update on the situation, the owner of the tiles shop come and had a look he agreedthe tiles had some markind and two were a darker white, he contacted the manufacturers who said it could be damp fromy the addy he said two give it four weeks to dry out.

But I'm not convinced given the warm weather we've had recently the tiles will dry out any more, I need to sort this out as soon as possible, as the bathroom can't be used at the moment the floor is half tlied no wall tiles no toilet or wash basin.

What do you guys think , will the tiles dry out to a uniform white or do think I should demand my money back and return the unused tiles .

Grateful for any advice.

From the pics it looks like you have used a grey adhesive.....appologies if I am wrong. If the tiles are white with a white biscuit (core) then you should have used a white adhesive as the grey can soak into the tile and stain it....same as with natural stone tiles.

Thanks for your reply, yes I used a grey addy as recommended and supplied by the tile shop, as far as I'm concerned it's there fault for supplying the wrong addy, there going to have to replace them or a full refund.

That might not be the cause but I've seen it happen before......ceramic tiles absorb moisture and if it's dirty as in from grey adhesive it can show through.

Do a test on a tile without laying it, that way you can also take a tile to the showroom to show them. If it is I wouldn't go in guns blazing and approach them in a polite manner as they could pass the buck to the tiler. Your ufh will most likely need replaced if it wasn't levelled over
