Hi all,

I’ve been trying to seek advice on whether the recently finished tiling/grouting in my bathroom is acceptable or not. I don’t think it is and neither do any of my friends or family.

The job took place over a Monday-Thursday and every evening I would see errors that I would have to highlight to the tiler the following day for him to rectify them. Just to confirm, I did not choose to go with this tiler. He is someone who the bathroom installer who I chose to go with said he only works with and so therefore it was either both of them or none of them.

This tiler has recently completed work at my parents house I thought the job was really good, neat and tidy.

At the end of the job I made a list of outstanding issues, some of these being:

  • plastic spacers protruding through the grout
  • tile trims with lips on them
  • tile trims that had not been secured correctly
  • tiles with lips on them
  • chipped tiles
  • poorly finished grout and silicone beads
The tiler came back on Saturday and said all the issues could and would be sorted. He spend just over an hour and left. When i re-inspected I now found that the bathroom looked worse than before.

Please could I get peoples opinions on the photos below? I’ve marked everything up in the bathroom with pink sticky strips and those ones with a ‘+’ on them are locations where I can see plastic from the spacers coming through the grout.

Thank you in advance.

not good at all. attention to detail quite poor. some easy to sort some not so easy.
do not pay until its sorted and your happy. thats my advice
Thank you for the reply. Your thoughts align with mine so definitely makes me feel better.

I’ve contacted CAB and they’ve advised that as he’s already been back to sort out the issues and failed I can now get quotes from other tilers to rectify the work. Problem will be that other professionals won’t want to touch the work and would want to start from scratch (which I can fully understand and appreciate).

Hi there, I specialise in high end tiling and my opinion is that finish isn’t acceptable if you notice faults like that, tiling is a finishing trade and requires years of practice to perfect everyone thinks it’s easy and I hear all the time anyone can tile but you have one attempt to do a good job with a good finish otherwise it will cost thousands to do it right.

The best tilers don’t charge good money for a reason not to rip people off, I’ve seen worse but it’s not great.

its disgusting from what I can see
I’m a tiler of 20 years working for myself on top end projects and this in my opinion from what I can see needs ripping out and throwing in the skip,
New tiles new tiler, do your research when finding a tiler it’s become a very skilled trade due to many different factors I won’t bore you but those who have been in the industry for a long while will know what I’m talking about. Sorry you have been caught out best of luck getting it resolved
