Hi,

We are in the process of having a new kitchen fitted and as part of the job we included tiling to be done, unfortunately we are not very happy with what we are seeing regarding the tiling. We would like to hear other people’s opinion on how this is looking so far and welcome any advice anyone can offer on what we should say to the tradesmen or offer suggestions how this could be rectified.
As you will see from the photos the tiling does not meet above the door, we can only assume they are going to look for some way to fill the gap which in our opinion is going to look very unsightly. We are guessing they did this to save themselves time cutting tiles to fit around the door !
Also if you look at the mosaic tiles you will see they have been allowed to slip, so they dip on the right hand side and as a result there is little or no room for grouting lines on some of the lower tiles and some grouting lines will be a little thicker.
We are so upset as this whole tiling job is not really as we were hoping, but the main man on the job was very difficult to talk to when we first questioned the design, we were really upset by his attitude so just told him to carry on, we wish we had told him to leave it altogether and either asked someone else to do that part of the job or done it ourselves.

Hi Amethyst,

You're right to reach out, this is shocking. This isn't work done by a tiler, it's handyman quality at best by someone who has no concept of setting out. What you're faced with a this point is having to pay to have the tiles removed and then replaced so it's going to cost more in the long run - I'd be looking for them to put it right at their own expense, or if you're not confident in their work then compensate you for having to get a proper tiler in.

Sorry you're having to deal with this - the sad thing is you're not alone, this stuff happens all the time.

Completely agree with the above. Laziest setting out I think I've ever seen. I'd be insisting they cover the cost of having it ripped out and re-done properly. When you choose your next tiler, I'd do some really good research and ask to see pictures of their previous work.

Also, as you're going to need to have it re done properly anyway, I'd also consider having those tiles laid in a brick bond fashion. It's only personal opinion of course, but I always think the metros look much better laid in that manner. Others may disagree......

Cheers
