Family friends asked me to replace a tile the plumber took off to replace a shower valve, whilst doing the work he managed to butcher and take out most of the wall that was holding the previous tile on. .any suggestions to fill the hole so I've actually got something to stick the repacement tile onto?

Has it been leaking into the substrate....

Hard to tell as there was no substrate left..but from what I could see no it didn't appear to have been

They said it kept going scalding hot without touching the regulator...they live in Tenerife for 6 months of the year so probably got full of crap and seized up..

put my upvc windows in 10 yrs ago with the stuff sticks better than any thing i know. dont get it on yer hands you'll be scrubbing for days

So would you maybe stick some moisture board round the valve on with the foam then the tile with cement ady or just foam the tile on?

Plasterboard adhesive after removing everything thats loose and priming. Then stick plasterboard to it to pack it out to where you need to tile. Then tank. Then tile.

Hope you used fischer bolts too Ray!

Ctd sell a quick set render. Think it goes to 50mm depth. It's good for repairs on rendered walls.

All suggestions so far are options I have used in similar circumstances and all work well. The good thing about foam and board is that it is easy to cut away/ dig out if access is ever required for the valve

Honestly ... Not something I would be keen on but might be ok for just one tile..

A spray of water on the brickwork will help the foam stick if you decide to go with that.

for one single tile the foam is the easiest and fastest way I know like I said sticks like poo to a blanket any thing else then your waiting for it to dry befor youll be on for days put some on a tile and try and remove it after it sets that should answer your question.

sand and cement is corrosive to copper dave ask any decent plumber especially around a mixer valve foam will encase and protect and stick its only one tile

Job done this aft..used foam then moisture board then rapidset for the tile..customer happy, his wife has just given up smoking so got paid what I asked for plus 200 ciggies tip, which equates to £90 tip
Leveled a floor in an off licence Monday evening and got paid in 12 bottles of nice wine..stocked up with everything for the weekend now...shame I'm working all of it
