just woundering if anyones had there gear nicked from there vans where, when, what, circumstances
i had window of my traffic smashed and my outdated tom/tom nicked in bakwell, the banckers!!

A while ago with the old urvan, they cut one of the rubbers out of one of the back windows and nicked a nearly brand new dewalt cordless drill.

Heard on the local radio that a ambulance had it's sat nav stolen while the guys were on a call, beggers belief:incazzato:

Complete B'stewards - sorry Dave if you have to remove that but it is true. Freind of mine had his van nicked in the summer. Never to be seen again. Amost put him out of business. When I had my car broken into and was lucky to lose just the tom tom the hassle just that caused me was unbeleivable. I can't imagine the greif you must get if they nock the tools of your trade. Trouble is on the rare occasions these people get caught the courts don't give a punishment to fit the crime. They should be birched or put in the stocks in my opinion.

not that I feel very strongly about it of course...........grrrrrrr!!!!!:incazzato::incazzato:

My dad and two other lads were doing an Asda job down in the midlands somewhere in October this year and when they arrived on the job had to go in for an H&S Induction video, etc. When they got back to the van 20mins later fond that some tw*t had pulled up alongside the side loading door of his Vito in another van and emptied the whole of the van into his - I mean everything - change of clothes for all the lads, packed lunch, tools, satnav, etc, etc....:incazzato:

Know a heating engineer who was parked outside his house and did'nt lock it and in 5 minutes he had a load of power tools stolen.

His neighbour got the reg number of the ford focus and it registered at a travelers camp, the police did'nt bother about it.

Yes - we were working on a Victorian vestibule(entrance) and the van was parked in the drive 10feet away(behind us).
Sometime in the afternoon we looked back and someone just ran away from the van.
My son chased after him while I phoned the police but he was away!
He must have been on his 3rd/4th visit as our Rubi mixer/paddle was gone + coat etc.
About a month later we were asked to an identity computor parade of photos which we couldn't confirm and apparently they had some lads in for other thefts.
PC said as we left - 'not to worry we'll fit him up for something' !!!!

I have seen a transit van where the bankers had opened the side panel with tin snips, nicked his radio, thing was the back doors were unlocked! The damage to the van cost loads of money because it was sign written.

Had my belingo rear doors done this year, TS40 & grinder with a mercrist blade taken, must have been disturbed as nothing else went. Got the van fully secured now with security devices. BUT, why don't the van makers put them on in the first place?

The thing that amazes me is the money you pay for a van then have to add extras for locks and alarms, it should be fitted with all the security measures beforehand.

You would have to make a lot of noise to get in my van, huge steel box bolted through the floor with my electric tools, side door has a padlock on the inside, back doors have big security, double panelled on all sides, steel bulkhead, and a loud factory fitted alarm.
Plus gas pipes underneath that shoot flames out 6 feet long if anyone touches it.

I lied about the last point, but I would like them fitted, roast thief anyone.

:ban:

Still use the car at the moment and this is one of the main things putting me off getting a van. Often park in some particularly rough areas of West Belfast so tools are not assumed in the boot the way they would be in the van.

or wire the tools to 11000kva supply surprise surprise!!!!:yikes::yikes::yikes:

When I lived in the UK I had my van broken into 3 times in less than a year!!!
1st time they actually pulled up at the side of my van in my clients secluded drive and completely emptied all my tools. (approx 4500)
2nd time they parked on a garden to get to & empty my van (approx 2500) I had been in the house for less than 10 mins
3rd time outside ASDA (cheapest loss 650) someone saw what was happening & called the police, they weren't interested, wouldn't even give me a crime number.

We had a problem around my area a few years ago, a local pikey was nicking quad bikes from farms, gamekeepers etc police were not really interested so a few local farmers set a trap and caught him nicking a bike, and they used a nail gun and nailed him through his hands to a barn door and left him there...he moved out of the area shortly after.

I must start to lock my van up:yikes: tbh, it never occur to me to lock it up at night as I live in a quiet rural area.

I doubt if the value of my tools would fetch more than a drink on the black market.
Its more the damage they do getting in and the time to replace!
Anything of value - wet cutter/paddle mixer - are taken off.

working on a shop in the Bluewater center staying in a nice area called Dartford lol left my van unlocked at night as i didn't have much in their and the sort of area for break ins one night ever car and van was broken into and damaged except mine also a plumber friend of mine has signs on his van Kevin's flowers never been broken into yet lol

Jesus i feel for you guys.
