got a customer who I did bathroom walls, floor and kitchen kitchen splash and floor on a insurance joby- the whole house was ruined last winter when the water tank in the loft burst when water froze. beautiful victorian house new cornice wodwork plaster the lock stock and barrel.
really happy with the work that i did and asked if i would do the dining room floor in the same quartz tiles.
break my back finding decent quote chasing tile suppliers, backing boards the lot.
emailed price...... a week later asked if i could make cheaper. reluctantly aggreed to do as a cash job and knock the 20% tax, just wanted the pictures and another job under my relitivly inexperianced belt.
job supposed to start next week and now has said cannot afford to do the quartz, can i do a fresh quote for something cheaper:mad2:.
do i do another quote? will it be wasting more of my time and effort? anyone had anything like this happen to you?

need the work but my god she is making me work for it.

Might as well Joe, as you say its work doubt there going to go with somebody else as they already trust you and like your work and not to forget potential referals. Better get used to punters that make ye sweat for your dosh plenty of them out there!

you may be better off letting the customer find the tiles to save you time messing about and a quote would then be simple as you already know what prep work and materials you need. don't cut your own throat by knocking off 20% for a cash price, chances are you may well not pay any due to being a new business.

you still have to pay tax on cash jobs, so youve just knocked 40% off....

if your price was fair, and the job was a referral i would of stuck with the price...lots of customers are trying it on at the moment..

Lot off customers will cut you to the bone if you let them as they think everyone is struggling with the economic climate and they hold all the cards. Unless the spec for a job changes, then I never change my price and doing cash is a false economy and only benefits the customer and not you.

I always say to a customer that they can change their mind as many times as they want until I've fixed the tiles!
I don't literally mean it but we are providing a service and until they are happy with the agreed price, choice of tile and paid the material deposit - it's not my job yet, and it's still just an estimate.
