Hi Guys, I have a balcony and the floor is tiled but, the floor is too low or should I say the balcony wall is too high! So I want to raise up the floor level and was thinking of using decking, but thinking again maybe tiling would work ok.
Ive attached a picture.. Does anyone have any suggestions? I want to raise it up by 300mm.

Perhaps I could lay some blocks and then some board on the top and tile over the board? I have a drain behind the chimney and would slope towards that drain.

If I used blocks and boards, should I use marine ply, or would it contract and expand too much leaving the tiles cracking??

Whats the best approach :) Please help !

Thanks Tom, however this is more because of structure, as the wall is the roof of the apartment below, and the wall is far higher than the legal requirement.

What are the tiles fixed to at the moment ? You will have to ensure that any joists are fixed well, I wouldn't use wbp board, a board that was impervious to water such as Hardibacker would be my choice for outside work.

Ive mailed Hardiebacker and they dont have any suppliers in spain :( Would the cement board be a lot better than wood? I do like the idea of cement for the sake of reduced fire hazard..

The current tiles are fixed directly to the concrete floor of the balcony. It will take plenty of weight, no fears in that regard.

Would the WBP board expand and contract and eventually crack all the grout?
