Tile Levelling Kits

Hi all

I've always levelled a floor with rapid set and cement board plus spirit prior to tile up to now. Am I missing a trick here. Are they any good?

Si

They have their uses on certain tiles. Some say they are a bit DIY amateurish but can be a god send in some scenarios

I have the Genesis ones being delivered today from pro tiler tools.
Cheaper than Rubis version and comes with the ratchet tool.
I'll let you all know how I get on.

Arrived this morning

If the weather turns cold, as winter is just round the corner, keep the clips warm as they get a bit brittle when cold.
Setting the pliers to the correct setting to stop you inserting the wedges to far and breaking the clips.

U soak the Rubi clips for that very reason, but all year round.

Also when using these levelling systems can you leave the base clips in the side of the tiles ( say overnight ) then start the next row from the gone off row of tiles.
Or doing a showroom floor with rapid set adhesive, when you do a long bay by the time you get to do the next bay the adhesive would have gone off so could you leave the base clips on the edges.
Thanks.

Question. Using Genesis and Lash as an example, I'm trying to figure out how many clips would be used per tile. I know if they are laid straight bond, its 4 per tile. 2 at the top and 2 at the side (4 per cross joint). But what about say a 900x450 laid with a staggered bond? Am I right in thinking its 6 per tile? 4 on the long edge and 2 on the short? 3 around each T joint? or is there a way of using less?

Confuzzled!

And if someone dared to do proper brickbond, 4 on the top edge and 1 down the side? Also, I guess for a thinner wood effect (150 or 200), the end one wouldn't be needed?

Tbh Paul it's a judgement call at the time, no real hard and fast rule.
Well, I spose it gets complicated it you're trying to inform a diy'er.
But in honesty, they're not for the non tiler, they can be very difficult and frustrating to use.
They'll probably break as many as they use!
And no levelling system is cheap like that.

new raimondi, (new. by the end of 2014 ...).
they do not break (said and repeated at least 5 times).
with 10 boxes 2000pz. broken at max 50pieces.

I ordered clips & wedges from Italy, very similar to Raimondi but a lot cheaper.
When you say you level a floor with cement board & rapid set what do you mean?
Are you dry lining the floor with the cement boards?

Going to be trying those next week let you know what I think.

Just used my 3mm clips earlier on a small floor, good but the tiles were bowed so still a bit of lippage that you would never get rid of as they wanted it brick bond.

Did you use the plier tool with them @Stef, i've only used the lash ones which I thought where great but I'd I think if doing large areas the old thumb would take some stick.
Just used my fingers, I've got Raimondi pliers but don't use them much.
I've got Genesis lash clips & they are garbage, these clips have a flat base & are good to work with.

stef apologize if I intrude.
I believe there is an error in the installation.
The bases should be in the corners.
strong pull with pliers.
Also being able to straighten bananas.
sorry
