Tile cutting advice

Hi - I've been looking through the forum threads looking for info / tips and there is lots to take on board.

I'm tackling a bathroom refurb after many years of very little diy!!! I have tiled before, kitchen wall & floor, bathroom walls etc so I have an idea of the process but I need some advise on tile cutting.

We have Porcelenosa rectified ceramic wall tiles 600 x 300 approx and I have an electric wet saw (wickes DIY item).

When cutting the first tile I found that when I was about 5mm or so from completing the cut the tile cracked the last bit breaking off the corner. I don't think this will be a problem for the internal corner cuts but I need to avoid this for the window cuts.

Any advice greatly appreciated

Tried this already and was 'almost' spot on, need a little practice!!

Would a new blade help ?

if it comes with a tiler yes :lol:

wont they snap cut ? you might be pushing the tile to hard onto the blade just take it slow

get a dry cutter...quicker, easier...can always stick it on flea bay when finished..

Top quality tiles require a top quality saw or cutter.
A Wickes wet saw will be too wobbly and rough.
Invest in something half decent and sell it after the job.

You can often get by with a cheap machine.....but replace the blade with a decent one and take the cuts slowly which will result in less chipping and less vibration = less snapping of that last little bit. hope that helps.

use a dry cutter on the straight cuts mate makes life easier and on the L cuts or any other angle score the lines with your dry cutter and then cut them slowly with your wet cutter... life will be good lol

Any recommendation of a decent dry cutter ?

Sigma is the best cutter by far and will sell easy again when finished ......however there not cheap

Big clinkers are ment to be good although I've never used one....

Don't bother with a rubi only amateurs use them. :sofahide:...lol

Perhaps a bit over the top for a DIYer cutting ceramics. A Rubi Star 60 at under £100 from Trade Tiler would do. Or a Big Clinker from Screwfix at a bit over £100.
