Any of you old timers dealt with terrazzo before?
On a job starting tonight laying a full floor of it in a new build Asda.
Never done it before but the company boss is sending me down with gang of experienced lads so i can see how it is done. Explained i havn't touched the stuff before but he is happy to pay me full tilers pay and basically work as a trainee for them for a few months.
If i am not happy with the terrazzo laying has said he will switch me back to ceramic work no problem.
Thinking it may be nice to add another string to my bow.

Specialist work Penno.............and expensive machinary. Definately NOT for your average tiler

terrazzo tiles are usually laid on sand - cement and it is back breaking work. Most of the crews that i have seen are usually made up of guys who are quite small because they lay the tiles from a crouching position. The grinding process is usually done by a seperate crew so the machinery that c j mentioned would not be relevant to you.

murf is spot on with this post ,terazzo layers never kneel down, the guys i have seen can lay between 30m2 and 80m2 a day this really is heavy hard work good luck with it its always good to learn new stuff

look on the bright side !! a few months laying tarrazza is like 3 years in the gym 10 hours a day
its bloody hard graft you,ll be shoving a barra for the 1st week i would think then stacking the tiles
oh happy days:thumbsup:
one tip where marigolds and E45 every night
youll soon see why

I'd be willing to have a go just for the experiance, always willing to try new things

done small areas and mainly ground and polished by hand mixing screed by hand to lol let someone else do it much easer 😛ete

Well been a few days working with it now and really enjoyed it. Not too sure yet if i am prefering it to ceramic work but it's going well. Especially enjoying the rates of pay im getting for working with the stuff, much more than ceramic pay 🙂
Bloody hard graft though, deffo earn your money.

Dead right about the terrazzo lads all being short arses, which i like, my 5,5" frame fits right in 🙂
