any members who have large tattoos ?
Anyone got any advice about how to "get in the zone" when having a tattoo done ? In the middle of a large piece being done at the moment, have already had five sittings of five hours each time. the last couple of hours each time is agony, especially outline ( really fine needle ) My next session will be about six hours as my back detail outline has to be done in one go.
How do you switch off ?

To be honest I've never done the tatoo thing but have seen some incredible artwork, hope on the six hour one you get a tea break:yikes:

if you look on my profile pic,the tattoo on there (demon) top of my back took 3 1/2 hours non stop, was feeling it by then.just a case of grin and bear it mate i`m afraid i usualy listen to my ipod.i`ve a few and have 2 dragons on my chest one on each side, the nipple area hurt like hell worst pain ever  then there`s the one on my lower and 3 on each arm two of which i`m having laser treatment to remove/lighten so i can have sleaves done by a friend.

there was a power cut during mine.......needle got stuck in me for 10mins.
That hurt!

Good luck be brave!

close your eyes and think of a naked women (or man if thats the way you are)
just dont think of the pain the finished product is what you want and when its done the pain will be gone

girl who is doing tattoo is trainee, although good artist a bit slow. She charges £40 for as long as you can sit. She works for Bob Hoyle, an award winning tattoo artist ( he charges at least £60 an hour ) Could not afford that.
to be fair to Emma, she drew and designed my tat from scratch, a snake that starts on my chest, round my arm then will go right to the bottom of my back.

Was a bit bigger than planned, but as I have started I must finish :yikes:
MySpace.com - BOB HOYLE/ GARGHOYLE TATTOO STUDIO - 42 - Male - elland, UK - www.myspace.com/garghoyles

Photo shows mostly initial scale work, and some shading ( and much redness )

I will get a photo of my mates tattoo that Bob has done ... awesome
He is covered in them, regularily goes for six hour sessions ( and laughs all the way through )

never give up! a mate of mine has quite a few tattoos but the one on his lower arm has been work in progress for 5 years (2 hours here, 6 hours there) and he changed his mind half way through after going to 6 different artists, so the design has evolved and had to be redone over and over again and now looks a mess. make sure you use the same artist from start to finish. I've wanted a tattoo that my mate designed, for over 10 years now but have not found someone I trust... well someone that I trust and can afford... so it looks as if I still need to save those pennys... Good luck mate:thumbsup:

As said, take your mind off with music, what ever floats your boat, loud and in the ear, don't think about anything else, easier said than done, at the end of my 3 + hours my arm was hanging off, had no music, no detractions 😳

Mrs Doug has an incredible dragon on her right scapula, often thought about having St George on my left one, lance bearing down etc etc etc. but no, do prefer my little bod ink free!

funnily enough, conversation in c/room was aboot tats earlier, and I'd be very lucky in a field of curlews nests, (my back is that freckly)

would you want all that ink when you've finally realised that you're not gonna be a good looking "Live Fast,Die Young" kinda corpse? The reality is that as you get older your skin and ink will shrink, so that fearsome tiger on your forearm will look very anorexic when you get to 60!😳

With Doug on this, appreciate some tattoo artwork but deffo not for me. Do you tattoo lads cover up when you go to do quotes?

I have 4 but all are above short sleeve level so are covered up when dealing with customers but most customers have tatoos now so i don't think it matters any more,
i'm after another now but its finding the one i want and the artist to do it

My wife had a Dolphin tattoo about 15yrs ago on her bum...but as years have passed its now a Whale....

same with women who get parrots tatood,,end up lookin like turkeys with droopy throats pmsl. i have a few tatts and want more as well just havent got round to doin it

As I'm a geometric tiler, this is the ink stuff I'm into.

Who knows one day I'll get around to getting them done 🙂

here's my biggest I designed it my self.

the another is on the inside of my for arm which I also designed myself.

Ive got a tribe band up the top of the arm but none hurt at all. i've very meaty arms.

but ive got a face on my shoulder blade i got done when i was younger b4 i started doing weights and was very skinny. I kid you not I cried like a girl!! if your bony they hurt 10x more!

as for getting in the zone? thats the tattooists job. they should have banging heavy metal music on to take your mind away and boost your testosterone. trust me it works.

I found that after the first 10 minutes or so I got used to it, although the feeling of what seemed like a large nail being slowly scraped through my skin was still there I kind of forgot about it. Im looking for another now, not sure what it'll be though.

A tattoo on any guy older than forty must be just about the biggest turn off ever!!! Have seen enough tattooed patients, and oh God, the older you get the worse it is,....urrgh... sorry all you tatooed folk...but....urrrgh.... why???? do it??? :ban:

tattoos now aint like the ones from years ago. and at the end of the day when your old you look awful anyway a tattoo ain't gonna make much difference.

I find fat on women a huge turn off but most women over 30 are covered in it!!

I just sit and enjoy it! Call me strange but I love the feeling of getting tattoo'd. The last hour of this one was stinging slightly but it wasn't too bad.

Sorry about the size of the pics, it wouldn't let me make them smaller.😳

😳I hope that looks off center coz your backs at an angle in the shot!!!

My mate tries not to do symmetrical work coz its to easy for it to look on the pi** the tattoo dont even need to be if your body's unlevel. lol almost like tiling you could say!!
