Been working with the PCI group lately at the training centre and they have a product developed called Pecilastic, it replaces ply and is only 0.8mm thick and works in the same way that ditra matting works absorbing the movement in its fibers from the surface below, what you do is go straight onto the chipboard floor with a 3mm mosaic trowel and flexi adhesive then press the sheet of pecilastic into the adhesive with a grout float then leave to dry then simply use the flexi ady to stick your tiles down, comes in 1 metre wide lenghts that is cut off a roll, costs about £7 per mt2 and cut with normal scissors.
Check out a search in google for PCI Pecilastic and have a read.
If going onto floorboards put 6mm ply down first the repeat the above
Regards
Darren:thumbsup:

It doesn't add strength to the floor darren............so how can it replace ply.......
Ditra...kerdi...durabase as well do not add strength to a timber floor.......each has it's own uses but not as a replacement for ply as a strengthener......

These products are

1. crack bridging membranes
2. waterproof membranes
3. uncoupling membranes

but do not replace ply as a floor strengthener.........only movement they absorb is lateral and not deflection.........

Hi dave, the floor will have to be made a rigid as possible i would have thought, just telling people the demo that was done off them, straight onto a chipboard floor, seems hard to believe it works with being 0.8mm thick, however they say it has been tested to death in Germany. I would have thought more for use where movement joints can occur, Its pretty new out so well see how it fairs

It is :

A crack bridging membrane exactly the same as Durabase WP membrane.

It has a core with a fleece upper and lower surface it is not an uncoupling membrane as such but by its nature (elastic & fleece factor) it can withstand some latteral forces.

Doesnt replace anything

I myself am a stickler for the tried and tested methods which i would personally use, still interesting to here of new products comming onto the market

Hey Darren you can only quote what you have been told, you want to point the rep to their own product data sheets before they start their bragging tactics.

Reps are all about selling their own products and im wise to that anyway, i did tell the rep that i wasnt convinced at the time anyway, im familiar with the durabase wp so new what the pci,s capabilities probably were. The heading i put wasnt to endorse the fact only to open a thread for discussion from what info was given from the rep

Used it a few times now, easier than plying a floor, cant see why there would be problems if the germans use it !!
