No grout in shower?????!!?

S

Skinszo

Hi guys,

need some advice please,

i have a wall to tile in a shower area but the tiles the lady wants to use are a mosaic that are all different levels and lengths.
my issue is that the tile are so close together on the sheet that its impossible to put any grout between them.

im obviously planning to tank the wall behind but wonder if there was a certain adhesive I should use to help keep the water out.

Thanks

If these are the split face type they aren't supposed to be grouted hence you cant use them in a wet area. A pic of them would help.

Skinszo, welcome to TF

DO NOT put these tiles in a wet area.

Fine to tank the shower area but you need a tile that you can grout. Water will just pass through the very narrow joints.

You can always refer her back to where she got the tiles from and they WILL/SHOULD recommend that this type of tile should not be used in a wet area

Always use a cement based adhesive in a wet area.

Hi, thanks for the replies.
There a v amd b tile, and it's for a interior designer who hates the word no haha

have been racking my brains as to a way I can use them.

I'm guessing they are supposed to be a feature if they are not on every wall.

Try to put them, say on the wall where the towel rail/radiator is and locate the rail/rad in the middle of that wall and the main field tile in the shower area.

You can't.

Bloody designers.

Tell her your a tiler (?) not Harry bloody Potter.

They will stink in no time at all.......regardless of tanking.

you could give her an option of uncalibrated slate cut down to different sizes to look like some thing along those lines and grout it up

bri i think posted a job he did on here of a feature wall he cut them down on looked the biz!

FYI, Skinszo, if you do attempt something like the picture I posted, allow yourself plenty of time to fit it! That took forever to do, about 5 days in total, a full day just to chop all the stone up.

Be honest Bri it took one day to tile and 4 days dressing up in various leather outfits while the wife was out!

Busted! The leather chaps are quite restricting, bending over is quite difficult so it slows my tiling down 🙂
