Rob, I just did a quick calc and coverted metric to imperial, and GBP to US$, and using your figure for tax it turns out that you guys are paying about the same price or a little more as we are for just the gas itself....the huge difference of price at the pump is the taxes. :yikes:

Just checked, of the £1.15 - around 40p goes to the retailer and around 75p goes in tax if you include vat. Hence why you don't see many 7 litre American cars on our roads, we could barely afford to start them let alone move them off the driveway

Where does all that tax money go????:mad2:

There aren't many 7 liter cars here anymore, either....my largest work truck is a GMC pickup, with a 6 liter 8 cyl. It can suck some gas, so my daily driver is an F150 with a 4.2 liter 6 cyl. It gets about ~50% better mileage than the GMC. One of my men is in the Ford Ranger with a 2.4 liter 4 cylinder. That gets pretty good mileage...I think it is about double what the GMC gets.

It's hard to beat the GMC and the almost 10,000 pound gross vehicle weight when it's time to move some material. 😀

have to agree with rob your petrol is dear filled up today 1,26 aud a litre workes out about half what you pay😳

I think our tax rate on fuel is more like 70%. IF they used that money to fund roads etc we would have roads like the ones we find in France. Sadly we use it to fund everything and have far too many spongers sucking the life out of the country.

Don't get me started on fuel prices!! I have a 75 mile round trip to work every day :yikes:
The last time fuel prices were so high was because oil shot up to $147 per barrel. It's now sitting at about $80 per barrel (I think), so there's no excuse for it IMO. They are coming up with a new excuse of "the pound is weaker now against the dollar". Yes, but not by much.

Budget day today and rumour has it another 3p hike on fuel :mad2:

All the big petroleum companies say they are just passing the cost onto the consumer, but if that was the case, why do they announce record profits EVERY YEAR??!! :mad2::mad2::mad2:

Heard somthing lately about the price of a barrel coming down again but the petrol prices still rising. The only thing that brought it down last year was the supermarkets slashing it to 99.9, where it fell another 5p or so, only to end up adding about a penny a week.

now that the budget has been presented to us with the declaration of a 1p increase in fuel and further increases to follow so that the government staggers the 3p increase.......it will be interesting to see how much the petrol/diesel goes up at my nearest petrol station in say the next fortnight....(1000/1 on) thats its more than 1p...b.t.w there is a cause on facebook which has been started saying that instead of a fuel demo.. the best way to bring fuel costs down is to boycott buying fuel from either BP or ESSO forecourts and use supermarkets thus hitting their profits big style and forcing them to reduce the price to attract customers hopefully starting a fuel war.

There's an email flying around to the same effect, too, CJ.
Worth thinking about, but I can't see it working. I have an ESSO station local that is cheaper than the local supermarkets so how does that work??
