Morning everyone,

The missus wants the bathroom tiles renewing, We currently have a toilet with a concealed cictern, built into a white unit, next to it we have one of those freestanding round sink units, with a round sink bowl sat ontop.

What she wants is for the sink and toilet to be built into the same unit, and to be mounted to the wall, across the width of the room, approx 6ft.

She also wants the frame to be tiled, not one of the ones you can buy of the shelf.

So i've resigned myself to the fact that i'm going to have to build the frame myself, then board it then tile.

The unit would be approximatley 6ft wide x 4 ft high and 1 1/2 - 2ft deep.

What im after is your reccommendations on what to build the frame from and what to board it over with prior to tiling, obviously it needs to be strong enough to hold the concealed cistern and weigh of the sink and water.

I've included a technical drawing :lol: to assist. (my 'paint' skills are limited).

Cheers Guys

Hardibacker 500..(12mm)....spot on for that type of thing....build the frame from CLS timber and overboard with hardi 500..very strong construction......just had one built for a wall hung toilet and sink....on a job i'm doin at the moment....

Cheers dave.

Is the board strong enough to support the weight of the sink, or is extra framework needed.

dave took the words out of me mouth , thats the way bathroom fitters do it , paint a bit of waterproofing on the topside for belts and braces..

Just put a support either side if it makes you feel it will help ..just depends on how wide the boxing is.....I suggested this to the lads( my brother) who built the boxing for the job i am on and they went nuts trying to cut it...pmsl....12mm thick cement board with a handsaw FFS was really funny .....hardi supply a tool that scribes it and then it just snaps like plaster board......it is really heavy duty board though so can't see you having any probs......or you could just use plasterboard and tank it...but ti think the hardi 500 will give a much stronger job for that type of installation...

good luck.....

YES! i know..lol...my brother fits kitchens and bathrooms for a living...
so really handy....

I agree with all of the above

Just make sure you plan where the H & C supplies and the wastes are going when you design the frame - It will make it much easier when you come to fit the pipework

Mark.
