Hi all, first mosaic job on wed coming up. I have put up mosaics borders start at one end & fiddle it around to finish on full tile. Is it the same on the full sheets or do you still perform the normal set up. Start from the worktop, if so do you sit the tiles on on the worktop or do you have 2mm spacers on each tile?? Do you put them up in brick fashion to hide the lines of the sheet?? I have a Montolit tile cutter which Ive heard is brill for cutting mosaics. Pull the feet down and you can cut each tile.Grout float to fix them to the wall, dont play around with them too much the backing gets wet.Is there anything else I should know ????? Not full of confidence when you have not done something before but Im sure when its done it will be another job under my belt. tile size 5 x 5.
Thanks

you sound like you have a rough idea groucho ,i used 3mm mosaic trowel and white cement based adhesive but dispersion adhesive should suffice .my tiles interlocked so no join lines and i worked from worktop upwards no spacers used groutfloat to bed into adhesive.good luck

I was going to use Ardex d 20 ready mixed which can be used for mosaics or should I really use bal mosaicfix??? thanks for the replies.

hi groucho. use bal mosaic fix or bal white star and u wont go wrong with either...
Use your grout float to pat the mosaics into place but dont play with them to much as the backing softens up with adhesive ,thus the mosiacs will move all over. good luck with job and post some pics.....dave..

I'm part way through my first ever mosaic job at the moment. What a pain in the ar*e! Must admit it looks the part once it's on the wall.

I have started on the worktop but have had to cut the tiles where they meet the cupboards and to the window ledge, around the window too. No matter where I started this would have been to case.

I have a rubi ts50+. I have scored with this and then used tile cutters to break the pieces off.(takes too long this way really!) It has been mostly successful doing it this way. Just score your line a few times.

Would have used a wet cutter but the tiles on on a paper backing so would just all fall off if they got wet.

I will definitely quote more next time I get a mosaic job

Let us know how it goes

Gaz.

You should have a go at mosaics with the paper on the front, what fun they are, i think the lads in the tile factory made this just to p.ss tilers off big time...

I use some mosaic nippers from NETT I think their the biz,no effort cut dead straight only about £18,nice little tool.
