I am considering purchasing the Wedi system for a shower renovation.

The current shower setup uses an electric shower and the new shower renovation will also use an electric shower.

The current electric cable runs from the studs, through the tile backer board, through the tile and then into the electric shower unit.

When the tile backer board is replaced with Wedi board, can the electric cable be run through the Wedi board? Does it need a certain clearance around the cable or is there additional protection that can put around the cable such as a sealing gaiter?

I want to ensure that running the electric cable through the foam backer board does not create a fire risk and that any necessary precautions are taken.

Also is there any documentation or training videos that use an electric shower when installing a Wedi system?

Many thanks in advance for any advice.

When using the Wedi system for a shower renovation involving an electric shower, it's essential to prioritize safety and follow proper installation procedures. Here are some considerations and advice:

Cable Routing Through Wedi Board: Yes, you can run the electric cable through the Wedi board, but it should be done carefully to ensure safety. It's a good practice to create a protective conduit or channel within the Wedi board to contain the cable securely. This helps prevent potential damage to the cable and reduces any risk.

Clearance Around Cable: While there may not be specific clearance requirements for the cable, it's crucial to ensure that the cable is not pinched, squeezed, or damaged during installation. Providing some space around the cable within the Wedi board is advisable.

Fire Safety: To minimize any fire risk, consider using fire-resistant materials around the cable penetration points. Additionally, consult local electrical codes and regulations to ensure compliance with safety standards. Fire-resistant gaiters or collars may be suitable, depending on your local regulations.

Documentation and Training: For specific guidance on using the Wedi system with an electric shower, it's best to refer to the official Wedi documentation or reach out to their customer support. They may have installation guides, videos, or resources tailored to various scenarios.

Professional Installation: If you are unsure about any aspect of the installation, especially when dealing with electrical components, consider hiring a professional electrician or a contractor with experience in Wedi system installations. They can ensure the project is completed safely and in compliance with local regulations.
