Betamat?

O

Old Mod

Evening all,
I've been to see a floor that is failing and when I asked about the make up of the floor they said that the 18mm ply had a Betamat overlay.
The floor in question is a bathroom on the first floor with wet UFH under the ply.
Can anyone tell me what a Betamat overlay is please?
I've never heard this term before, have any of you guys?
Thanks.

Well I was a bit baffled too!
This is an extract from the email I was sent.
This is the make up of the floor, bottom to top,

Quote
"Plastered ceiling with coving (no movement or cracking)
8" x 2" joists (with infil insulation from games room below
15 mm sterling board
2" x 1" batons with underfloor heating between
18 mm ply
Betamat overlay
Bathroom tiles.

Haha Ray if u'd given any other answer I'd of been sadly disappointed! Hahaha
.......and thank you!
At least I have somewhere to start looking (second hand shops!😀) haha

I've been doing a search on the net and nothing comes up concerning floors....some medical stuff😕

Fair point, normally if something sounds unfamiliar I'll think or research on it first, just in case it's a generic term I've not heard of rather than a brand.
The client also happens to be a Chartered Surveyor and not entirely daft. 🙂
Don't know what he specialises in tho.
This is one of four bathroom floors in the property that are on the verge of catastrophic failures, this is the one in best condition that I'm to deal with first.
Then the rest will follow.
They've had the original tile company back and all they did was re grout the cracked floors.
Well the grout cracked again within two weeks, and that was their one and only chance to rectify.
This renovation is barely 2 yrs old!

That's actually a bloody marvellous answer Ray,
Thank u very much!
......so whys the floor failing then? Haha
I was hoping it'd be something as simple as cranking up the heat in the floors before the fitters left the drive!

Oh yeah quite possibly, I was just looking for a link between them all.
It's a large property and the bathrooms are far apart.
The one I'm looking at is the only stone floor, and it's just starting go with cracked grout around one tile.
The others are already shot!
Could it be adhesive choice? Or lack of!

If Ditra fails , then more than likely deflection.
ditra is only as good as the man fixing it no more no less in the wright hands belts and brayses in the wrong hands just no more than a lash up covering the lash up before hoping they got it right but with no now how .keeps us in work every day .but when you sell your product to any body that will pay you a pound thats always going to go wrong some were. trade prouducts should be for trade only .then may be some day soon .other will learn we are a real trade not diy . but as long as our surpliers see the diy ers mean more to them than us .they will tread on us every day .who looks after tilers nobody .

the answer is in the first post 18 mm ply on joist bet they did not nogging between the joist and the joints of ply .18mm ply on floor boards but not on joist. on joist put in noggings were ply meets then screw down 12.5mm 5 ply then soak floor in wood glue then over lay with 12,5 mm ply crossing the joints below so there are no runing joints screw down now over lay with ditra you could now have an earth quake and the only surviver is your floor .but why would any body in our trade selling us products that we dont need. tell us that were did it go so wrong when clients stop liserning to us .tta i rest my case
