Longshot but does anybody know how this urn can be brought back to its former glory.. WP_20160727_20_36_25_Pro.jpg WP_20160727_20_36_33_Pro.jpg
It actually sounds like cast iron when you tap it but have found out its made out of very slow fired unglazed ceramic.
Its got family history, my grandad found it buried and broken in a garden he was working on thirty years ago and took it home and stuck it all back together, god knows what with (unfortunately he's not around to ask anymore 🙁) but its stayed in one piece till last week when I tried to move it and it came unstuck from the base.
Does anyone have any ideas what would be the best thing to stick the top and the base back together and also clean and repair all the cracks in the top of it?
Appreciate any help..

Akemi or similar bonding resin as above to stick it back together , also the will have a selection of coloured two pack fillers you could use to fill cracks if you don't use the clear resin. We have a product ,outdoor cleaner , use neat you could do a small test on the underside , this will deal with black, green spore and general staining or if you have a mildew remover at home you could test this. I would stick together , clean , dry and then chose a coloured filler to match if you need one,
If you wanted to impregnate this after , a suitable water based one would be perfect after testing

If andys akemi rep is due on site, I may need to attend also!!

Having a closer look ,is that bedded in with a morta, top to base , could you not clean this up and re bed.
I'm presuming the morta is something my grandad did, was going to clean that off with the angle grinder, wondered if maybe if a good blob of white flexible rapidset would bond it back together, that Akemi is mega expensive at £120 (not an hour 😉) a tub!! The fillers are a bit more reasonable..ill see if its possible to get a colour chart of some kind off them.
Was talking to a guy about it today and he suggested using a clear resin mixed with some dust off the inside of the pot if I ground a bit off...no?
Thanks for the cleaning advice Bob, would you recommend impregnate sealing afterwards?

Oh ok, been on Akemi website and that's the price for it on there, cheers mate, what about white rapid set just to stick urn and bottom back together...no??
,well........why don't you just try it then you bodge artist!
I just thought it was something of significant family importance!
And you come on the forum to seek proper professional advice?
Even though Bob is the only one has given any! Haha
Cos I'm only making an half educated guess! 😛

L Bob for trusted advisor, moderator n admin I say 😉

I would glue it back together with akepox it made by akemi but is epoxy resin rather than polyester resin to clean it I would sand blast it with soda crystals they are soft enough to clean it with out being harshly abrasive like sand blasting , you could try then resurfacing it with portland stone mix itsca little outside my area of knowledge but its how stone facades are cleaned and resurfaced , it you speak to Gary Bass at Apex grange he would be able to tell you what you need and has all the products needed to do it
