remember the railway hotel in preston back in the late 80s was on my mates stag do he lived in wrey green was absolutely smashed out of my head and the seven stars in wrey green got drunk there regularly my m8 who I drank with he now lives in turton bottoms will be doing a bathroom for him in may if we don't end up pissed as what usually happens when we get together

so if you trained to be a plumber why haven't you trained to be a tiler.

why do plumbers think its easy tiling. is it because theve seen tillers doing it and think that's easy. youre probably a brilliant plumber but looking at your picks your an average tiler m8 find a good tiler in your area and team up then he will get the niggles not you. you could end up like me and my m8 bri we do high end bathrooms for a couple of bathroom companies and most of the time we start Monday and finish Friday or the latest Saturday .
our customers trust us to do a good job as were experts in our own fields we also do the jobs quicker, so the clients have minimal disruption to there lives. when your ripping some ones house apart they get stressed and want you out A S P and because there stressed they turn and the longer the job takes the more time they have to find fault because as soon as you've gone for the night there examining your work in minutes detail. and as tiling is in my opinion an art. it is on show so is always on show for critisimum. the first thing a person sees when they walk in a bathroom is the tiling not the plumbing .so the tiling is what shows the job to be what it is. not the pipes under the floor.

5 days full high end bathrooms....does this include plastering ,electrical etc....if so this is really impressive as i quote 7-9 days for this .

2 of us pal
we are 3 me, tiler. bri plumber and chris my son hes a tiler and now an apprentice plumber .
we work as a team and we plan what we want to achieve every day we only leave when that days tasks are completed some times this may involve working a bit late but what we try to achieve is as little disruption as possible for the clients and that's why we aim to do the job in 5 days or 6 if its a bit more difficult. customers are nice to your face but under Neath they hate the upheaval you cause them. don't get me wrong we work hard and some days we never stop. but our speed dosnt compromise our quality all our work is in copper and machine bends if possible hate plastic its a big no no for us . weve been working as a team for 18 mts now and we are getting the recommendations from our previous clients from there friends and family. we have seven projects confirmed with deposits and another number we are quoting on as well as other work so over all looking good.

I'm sensing a bit of a theme...:beercheers::beermug::beercheers::beermug::beercheers::beermug:😉

good to hear pal, I used to use copper on everything, but now i only use copper when in veiw ie towel rad stabs and shower stabs...our name is rapidly becoming the name to call in the Hull area and we never lower our prices to compete for quotes which are all quoted for 7=9 days labour...we can sometimes finish in 6ish days depending on spec etc

Only thing I'd add is get rid of that fugly window beading before you tile reveals. That would also let you pack out a bit to make your cuts a bit bigger around the window.

sorry, I was wondering if the centering of the window, can be fine ..... otherwise I change jobs ... thanks

julian listen, or you talk to me in Italian, or makes me a drawing, because I do not understand what you say ...

Is it me or did this thread morphis into all the other sections in this forum .
Where did the original en suite theme disappear to and why has it not been restricted to the OP's issue.
I'am going to have to restrict my viewing of this thread or I might upset someone!

did a bathroom last week 18 m2 walls 2m floor tiled in a day grouted the following tiles 500 x250 10 mm notch trowel back buttered tiles
as I have over 30 yrs experience 20 mtrs a day is easy for me
reading some of the posts on here a lot are averaging 6 to 10 mtrs a day to me thats diy rate
Hi Ray, A few questions about this post, firstly do you have a labourer? secondly does this include any prep? and lastly if no to the first question, do you compromise on the quality of your work for speed as to be honest, I work hard from 8am to 4pm, am an experienced tiler and finish to a high standard and can not see you how you can achieve over 20mtrs a day to any sort of standard. Cheers buddy.

yes I have a labourer we tend to use a 10mm notch trowel which is 500mm long. for most of or jobs involving tiles 600x300. we also use the lesh fixing system so locks the tiles in place its practically fool proof.
I import the clips from a source in china so cost me approx. 1.85/100 this allows us to get the speed and quality.
today we have ripped out a shower room in a b&b and over boarded with 6 mm hardi backer board replaced tray and tanked out we started at 10.30 when her guest left finished at 7 tonight tomorrow we have 15mts tiling to do again 600 x300job has to be done for Thursday evening as room is booked for the weekend the good thing is the plumber has very little to do as the pottery is going back in the same place it came out from.
I sub to 2 very good bathroom companies and believe me if our work was crap we wouldn't be getting the work we do I don't advertise and work on recommendations mainly.

Thanks mate, that is really helpful because with a labourer I do achieve an extra 5-8 Mtrs a day so helps me to compare with what other tilers are achieving. Oh, and i'm sure your work is top notch ;-)

I'm thinking of buying a load directly and I'd be interested to know your source please?? PM if you don't want to share it on here please
just go on the alibaba site - there are hundreds of suppliers - make sure you set up contact with them or you will pay silly charges for shipping.

that's true ive seen worse

but if you read

so m8 have u allways worked on your own.
have u never thought of teaming up with a local tiler.
I teamed up 18 mths ago with a plumber, we have done over 30 bathrooms in the past 18 mths and have 7 booked in over the next 9weeks and were both making more than when we worked separately bri still puts his boilers in when im on my tiling days and im doing other things when hes doing his 1st fix . Mondays and Fridays we work together as mondays we rip out and Fridays is finishing and polishing
Hi. Not always no. I used to work alongside a tiler for 5 years but he has since retired.

I'm not gonna get involved with the tiling comments. Agree with some disagree with others. However, as a plumber who tiles I will frown upon the isos on the shower pipe work. You've left a big hole around the pipes which you'll have to pump full of Silicon before fitting the exposed valve. Personally, you have no excuse for not isolating the water supplies and making these a neater 18mm hole.

Other than that, it's far from the worst I've seen. Snag it with the client, get it done and get paid.
I agree with the shower pipe holes. However I couldn't find my 22mm diamond hole saw. I had to use 32mm.

that sounds like bri my plumber loves his machine bend pipework hates plumbers who work in plastic and tiling did his head in plus if w ehave aproblem we can throw ideas back and forth till we come up with the answer
I also hate plastic. However its all that's used on new build sites. If I have to use it I will only use JG Speedfit with JG inserts and it's all pressure tested to 8 bar for an hour. If all that is followed then it's as good as gold. That being said, copper is always my first choice as that's how I was taught.
