At what point do any of you use tubbed addy ?

When am told and when the tiles don't exceed the maximum stated on the tub. Just out of interest too the guys that never use it, would you not use it on a 4x4 or a 6x6 or an 8x8,if not then those jobs would take forever imho.

I just mix a bag of slow set, 4-5 hour open time. I try and avoid rapid set where possible. I like keeping my buckets clean.

Even with 4x4's I still use powder, half a bag of set plus will do a good 4 m2 kitchen splashie with a 6mm trowel so, it's cheaper than bucket addy as well as being better.

on the basis you use rapid in a kitchen..would you grout the same day rather than go back the next ?

Set plus is slow set. I always grout the next day, it's very rare that I tile and grout in the same day, maybe a small floor but, not very often.

Fast set flexible - in and out same day - loads of money!
The extra pays for the buckets, the jeans, the gloves, the additional adhesive because I've mixed too much, and the hand cream to keep them lovely and soft!
Not that long ago I had to replace tubbed adhesive he was sold for 60x30 porcelain. It was a Bank Holiday and he thought I was being awkward ( me!) but when I charged him half the £30 he paid for the tubbed gear, he accepted my advice.

suppose if the customer was to supply materials and th adhesive was tubbed you would hve no choice unless you turn the job down lol

If i turn up to tile a job & customer has bought adhesive i get them to take it back & use my own...Normally the price difference makes their minds up!!

Never

Only ever on a kitchen splashie with 100 x 100's. Anything larger I use Mapei P9 as a rule and Keraquick on all floors.

I just got in to a habit of phasing out tubbed gear, probably due to info on this forum. Weber set plus all day long for me or rapid on floors. Kerraquick for a medium setting adhesive. Tubbed gear on splash backs only

I got into the habit of phasing tubbed out.
I work for a company & I'm phasing it out with them also, they still get me some tubs of Bal green star for kitchens & smaller tiles so I use it & keep the free tub for mixing powder.
As Dave says its cheaper with a bag & I'm using a lot of weber set plus, it's great adhesive!!

I keep a tub of weber fix around for when I do repairs and only a very small number of tiles need replacing - say 2 or 3 in a splashback. Otherwise, never.

the walls i tile i wouldnt imagane would be any different to the walls you tile ,i prefer to use ready mixed adhesive as that is what i have used since it appeared on the market and to be honest i have never had any problems, its not the size of the tile that matters is it its the weight, ready mixed adhesive has been around a long time now ,im sure if was no good they would have stopped selling it,i have no problem with anybody using powder if thats what they want to use ,the problem i have is with folk preaching and telling folk not to use it as if it is no good,i use granfix adhesives and grout ,now lets wait and hear everybody slate that because its not the right one
