Hi all,
I live in Newcastle so I have a reasonable selection of DIY and trade outlets in my area, who would you say is the best for product range and cost to get adhesives, grouts and any other products relating to wall and floor tiling?
Regards,

stu

Cheers bri, as I'm looking through the forum there seems to have been a few products come onto the market that I'm unfamiliar with. Ply for floors was always the norm but now people talk about hardibacker and no more ply, I thought it had been 3 years since I had done some tiling but it actually works out that its been about 5 years since so I'll have to do some research on these products. Some say adhesive then cement board with screws others say just screws, some say board on top of floorboard and weyroc then cement board. What are your thoughts on this?

Cheers, it sounds like decent stuff plus the floor height will be more reasonable with it being 6mm

Cheers Dave, I originally bought my cutter from the team valley branch. They were good for advice as well from what I remember cos I looked at a job in a church for a friends vicar dad tiling a baptism pool so I had enquired about tanking. It had been tiled a year before but the tiles had started coming off as he'd used bog standard grout and no additional preparation. Transport let me down at that point so it didn't go ahead unfortunately

I live in Westerhope so its just as easy to jump onto the A1 to Gateshead than go through the town

Ah Westerhope.... You could try Leo Browns place in Westerhope.. or there is blaydon tile centre.

Are there any particular brands of products that you use? Do you also go with hardibacker for floor preparation

I use weber or tilemaster for adhesives etc.. and yes i use hardibacker... westerhope will sell tilemaster and CTD sell weber..

It makes sense getting it from round the corner from where I live. Also the wet cutter I have has a 110mm blade, it's ok for ceramic tiles and I can easily get replacements but I don't think it's going to do well on anything harder. The decent cutting blades I've seen for harder tiles are all 115mm, do you have any advice on places that are good for cutting blades as well?

Use a grinder with the 115mm blade in.. ATS Diamond tools on here does a good blade for porcs etc.

I'll have to rely on having a steady hand then!! Thanks for all your help mate it's really appreciated
