hi there.

can any one reconmend or even link to a set of templates for holes, pipes, sockets , curved sinks etc.
not just for tiling but general construction .

i was thinking of making them if i couldnt easily buy a set.

Holes and pipes can be cut out with the relevant core drill, sockets can easily be marked with a backbox or measured. Sinks and basins are always different but easily scribed or measured.

tapatalk on my HTC

As Mike,
Sinks & basins i would never cut round especially round the pedestal as i think it looks terrible as you need to Silicon round them imo.

i would pull the toilet and sinks if i had my way but some people dont want the hassel .
its not just tiling i want the templates for . iv often had the need to mark aquard shapes repeditivly. i must make them up some time as it would save a lot of time . i know its easy to measure boxs etc but a template would be better as there ca be no error (with in reason)

I wouldnt have the hassle of cutting round them though mate,

I charge a fortune to do it so its cheaper to rip them out & its a much better finish.

You shouldnt need a template for sockets as its simple to measure up to them & cut them to within a mm.

I believe I'd need a larger van to store all the templates that would be required.
The skill of a professional tiler is in the cutting of awkward shapes and the pleasure gained in producing a near perfect 150mm hole in the middle of a 600mm porcelain tile 1st time!

As above remove when possible, but on the odd occasion, do it with skill.

Nice one Phil, it can be done, but setting out is paramount otherwise you'll come to one tile where you just cannot get it to fit.

It also comes at a price to the customer doing it this way, very time consuming.

I always add a good bit to quote for cutting around toilets/basins.
It is a nice challenge though at times and a nice bead of silicon around the obstacle puts a sweet finish on too.

Haha....clear silicon of course so they can see the constant gap between the tile and pan....Oh white then..

I can cut it consistent the whole way no probs, the silicon to match the grout colour because there can be movement around loos.
Imagine a big 20st man or woman sitting there !!!!!!!!!!! lol
