Doing a regrout of a large kitchen floor am going to use a tiling rake is this the best option? plus the customer has cracked the glaze on one tile and wants this replacing whats the best way to get this up without damaging any other tiles? Any advice welcome guys:yes:

Rake out the grout around tile, then, if you can, start from the centre of the tile with a hammer and bolster to remove the tile and adhesive being very careful when you are hammering near the surrounding tiles. there are other methods but this one works best for me 😉

Watchout with the rake - last time I used one for a small job, I slipped (even though I was being careful) and caused a nice long metal mark over 2 tiles. Took me a while to work out the best way to remove the mark.
I would use a dremmel or look at the fein multi thingy (never used one though)

My Regrouting tips are.........

Don't do it 🙂

Its one chuffing orrible job.........mind numbing-ly boring.
Spose in the current climate though........you can't be tooo chosey.

A re-grout could lead to more work from that customer or friends and recommends....🙂

What is the quickess method to remove grout in say a bathroom without damaging the tiles, how long would it take to remove 18m, 2,3mm spacing?

What size tiles? 25mm mosaic - weeks! 600x600s days!

I usually stay away from regrouting but as said in todays climate a job is a job and can lead to more work

Don't touch repairs any more, to much hassle in it, its like opening a can of worms..........

With a FEIN and tiles that size day and a half to get all that grout out,you can't be quick or you slip and scratch the tiles. With a rake it'll go on for days.

Invest in a FEIN Multimaster mate, you will wonder how you managed without one! Dremmel is ok, but a bit of a pain in my opinion, also there is a Bosch multitool that is similar to the FEIN, but not even close to matching it, as always you get what you pay for.
I love my FEIN, grout removal, a doddle, also superb at cutting the boxes for sockets!

Have to agree totally with that, i bought a Fein last week and what a superb tool. Got a re-grout to do today to hopefully it will make the job a bit easier!!!

Is there a Fein set that would do the handyman for all tasks? I ask this as one for the sole use of tiling would be of little use to me now. My dremmel is nearing the end of its life - bearings kn***ed - so I would be looking at one mainly for general woodworking and tile associated tasks like regrouts of my home tiles.

cheers

The multi master isn't specifically for tiling frogeye, the tiling "kit" version just has useful tools for tiling included. You can buy whatever accessories you need outwith the set.

I will wait for Neil(?) buybrandtools to pop along and advise on best set up for non tilers - who may need to regrout their own kitchen soon.

Just finished a re grout in a shower cubical, 300 x 300 tiles using a rake took all day and finished up with arms like popeye!! Won't be doing another in a hurry, but hey its a job.
