Has anyone ever heard of mixing pva with grout. Ive heard its supposed to minimise cracks, where the tiles are already laid onto suspect substrates.

plasterers and builders use it over here, and it's an old myth to use it as a primer for tile but unfortunatley a lot of people still tile with it.

Oh, you're confusing me now, I thought Weldbond was Polyvinyl Acetate, the woodglue? I only know of it as my mosaic friends in America use it ... yes, this is the link... same stuff then... FAQ | WELDBOND® I had never heard it being called concrete bonding liquid before.. anyhow, bedtime for me.. :)
No reason to be confused..It's used for many things..Night,Night..

hi little5

take no notice of all these out dated myths mate..
firstly, nobody should be fixing tiles to 'suspect substrates' anyway.
secondly, there are pre modified grouts available along with expansion joints and decoupling membranes that help alleviate stress cracks..

as mentioned above and many many times on here previously, PVA has no place whatsoever in the tile trade, hope this helps

lol

I know a few guys who believe this can be done to grouts and https://www.tilersforums.com/forums/tile-adhesive/. There is no telling some of these peeps though.

My response when I try to tell them is 'well I havent had any comebacks'

Never heard of that before and personally wouldn't recommend it, the PVA could adversely affect the properties of the grout. If you're going to put anything in then buy a proper grout additive, PVA is wood glue.
Of course you can! It actually mentrions it on the bottle. Used it heaps of times.
