Hi, and thanks for reading. I’m basically in need of some advice to be honest. I got a friend who has just had his bathroom gutted. He’s had new timber framework put up. plaster boarded, then skimmed, a few weeks ago. And here’s where I need your help.... he’s attempted to tile the walls himself and hasn’t done a bad job to be fair. But now has noticed a few loose tiles here and there, and now he’s afraid he’s going to have to take them all off (23sqr metres of 8mm porcelain tile, with a pattern on which cost £38sqr metre). He knows I’ve done a little bit of tiling before and now he’s nagging me to help him out but I haven’t got time. Plus I couldn’t charge him because he’s that good a friend. Is there anything on the market that he could buy and use to go in between the gaps and behind the tile so it helps stick the tile to the plaster?? It would save him money a lot of money in replacing the odd broken few, more adhesive, and perhaps a professional tiler, and also get his bathroom back because his mrs ain’t to happy ha. Any advice would be a great help... especially if there’s something out there he could buy and do himself

Dean, would you feel safe lying in a bath with several kilograms of tile and adhesive over your body? As John has said above, 'No'. There is no magic cure for what you describe. It sounds like your friend did not prime the walls and the plaster has sucked all the moisture out of the adhesive before the crystals had time to form.

I'm all for people having a go, but when the tiles alone cost nearly £1000 plus adhesive, grout, primer, trim etc then you have to think to yourself is it worth cocking it up?

In this case Dean the only thing your friend could buy is the services of a professional tiler. He could save himself money by taking off the tiles he has just put up and try and scrape off as much adhesive as he can. Sorry.
