How to do this job ?

Tilers Forums Official Sponsors

Hi All , I am trying to build a shower cubicle using the tray in the picture (super heavy ) at the corner here.
There are a couple of things i wanted to get some advice on before doing something wrong.

There will be a stud wall (orange ) and a glass shower door (blue)
What do I line the shower side of the stud wall up before tiling ? I take it normal plaster board will not be sufficient ?

The solid wall behind is missing some plaster/render in places as can be seen . Do i need to patch render the damaged area before tiling over this wall or is there an easier way like dot & dab a tiling board without even repairing the wall first ?

One last question , the shower tray is made of resin i believe and its around 40-50 kilograms.
Do i need to bed this in tiling adhesive etc ? If so what do I need to use exactly ?

Many thanks in advance everyone 🙂

I’d skim that wall with tile adhesive where the plaster has come away and then overboard with jackoboard. Make sure everything is completely tanked. You can stick the tray down with single part tile adhesive (I normally use Bal or Ardex), just make sure the floor is structurally sound and primed.

I have actually sand and cement rendered the part of the wall where plaster came away to get a more even surface now.
Do i need to use a primer etc on the s/c and plastered surfaces before i apply the tile adhesive to them to stick the jackoboard on ?

Would it be advisable to completely level solid wall surfaces (with sand and cement or bonding coat ? ) and use a brush on water proofing system and tile over that at all ?
